Schedule AdjustmentStudents may make certain adjustments to their schedule throughthe end <strong>of</strong> late registration. The schedule-adjustment options availableinclude changing a section or exchanging one class for another(drop/add). Students may drop/add a course only within the sameacademic term or semester. A fee <strong>of</strong> $15 is charged for changing asection or exchanging one course for another. Students may add acourse or change a grading option without charge.Withdrawals or Dropped CoursesStopping payment on checks for registration fees, or not paying at registration,does not constitute an <strong>of</strong>ficial withdrawal or relieve thestudent <strong>of</strong> his or her financial obligation to UMUC. Never attendingor ceasing to attend class(es) does not constitute a withdrawal.Students who <strong>of</strong>ficially withdraw from a course receive a mark <strong>of</strong>W (described on p. 233). Undergraduate students must <strong>of</strong>ficiallywithdraw no later than two weeks (14 days) before the final class.For accelerated courses, a withdrawal must be submitted beforethe close <strong>of</strong> business on the first day <strong>of</strong> class.Students may withdraw from a course by four methods:•Students may call IRIS at 800-584-9413 and follow the directionsfor dropping a course. The use <strong>of</strong> the student and personal identificationnumbers is considered an <strong>of</strong>ficial “signature” authorizingthe withdrawal, which is effective immediately.•Students may acccess ISIS online at www.umuc.edu/ISIS and followthe directions for dropping a course. The use <strong>of</strong> the studentand personal identification numbers is considered an <strong>of</strong>ficial “signature”authorizing the withdrawal, which is effective immediately.•Students may complete a withdrawal form through their academicadvisor. The withdrawal becomes effective the date theform is filed with UMUC.•Students may request in writing to withdraw from a course orcourses. The letter should specify the course, course number,and section, and include the student’s full name, student identificationnumber, and signature. The request should be addressedto Registrar’s Office, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong>,3501 <strong>University</strong> Boulevard East, Adelphi, MD 20783. The postmarkon the envelope becomes the <strong>of</strong>ficial date <strong>of</strong> withdrawal.Students may send their withdrawal by fax (to 301-985-7364)provided that they meet the deadline, sign legibly, and followup by mailing the original document.UMUC cannot accept withdrawals verbally over the telephone.Failure to withdraw in the required manner results in the forfeiture<strong>of</strong> any refund and may result in a failing grade. For financial aidrecipients, failure to withdraw in the required manner may resultin cancellation/reversal <strong>of</strong> financial aid rewards.FINANCIAL INFORMATIONTuition and FeesAll tuition and applicable fees must be paid in full at registration,unless the student is enrolled in UMUC’s interest-free monthlypayment plan. Students registering by phone via the InteractiveRegistration and Information System (IRIS) are granted a certainnumber <strong>of</strong> days for payment to be received. (If payment is notreceived by the specified deadline, the registration may be canceled.)Payment may be made by cash, check, money order, or MasterCardor VISA credit cards. Checks should be payable to <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Maryland</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Students who qualify for tuitionassistance, financial aid, or veterans benefits should consult the appropriatesections. Students interested in the monthly payment plan,administered by Academic Management Services (AMS), should contactAMS at 800-635-0120 or visit www.amsweb.com on the Web.Current Tuition and FeesTuition rates and fees are published each semester in theUndergraduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes and are available on the Webat www.umuc.edu/tuition. Students should review the fee schedulecarefully to see which ones apply. Fees are commonly chargedfor applications for admission and graduation, late registration orchanges to registration, laboratory use (in science and some computercourses), make-up testing, transcripts, and various optionsfor earning credit (such as Cooperative Education, ExperientialLearning, and credit by examination). There is also a servicecharge for dishonored checks.RefundsA student who withdraws from a course before the first class meetingwill receive a full tuition refund, less the withdrawal fee per course. Astudent who withdraws after classes begin will be refunded a portion<strong>of</strong> the tuition, the amount to be determined by the date <strong>of</strong> the withdrawal.Refunds for Cooperative Education courses follow universitypolicy and are based on the date the student registered for thecourse. The schedule for partial refunds is given in the currentUndergraduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes.If the tuition for a student who withdraws was paid by employercontract, the refund is returned to the employer. If the aid was apartial payment, the aid is returned to the employer, and excesspayments are refunded to the student. Financial aid awards maybe canceled or reduced for financial aid recipients who withdrawfrom classes. Financial aid recipients should check with a financialaid advisor when withdrawing from a course to determine theimpact on their awards.No <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> financial aid is considered an active, final award until therefund period has ended. Students who withdraw before the end <strong>of</strong>that period are liable for all costs incurred and are billed accordingly.14
