Graphics and DesignARTT 354 Elements <strong>of</strong> Computer Graphics (3)ARTT 479 Advanced Computer Graphics (3)COMM 493 Graphics/Text Integration (3)Special topic and directed study courses may also be used to fulfill thisrequirement, if approved in advance.Art HistoryStudents may seek an academic minor in art history.Minor in Art HistoryThe art history minor complements the skills the student gains inhis or her major discipline by developing skills in historical andcultural interpretation and critical analysis <strong>of</strong> works <strong>of</strong> architecture,sculpture, painting, and the allied arts.ObjectivesThe student who graduates with a minor in art history will beable to•Demonstrate visual and critical abilities.•Relate direct observation to appropriate historical, political,social, and environmental contexts.•Study original works <strong>of</strong> art in local museums and images frommuseums worldwide on the Web.•Enhance intensive research and writing skills.Requirements for the MinorA minor in art history requires the completion <strong>of</strong> 15 semesterhours in art history, including one course focusing on each <strong>of</strong>the following periods: ancient world (pre–Common Era), premodern(Common Era to 1850), and modern (Common Eraafter 1850); at least 9 semester hours must be earned in coursesnumbered 300 or above. If a specific course required for theminor is taken instead to satisfy requirements for the major,another course in the same discipline should be substituted t<strong>of</strong>ulfill the required minimum number <strong>of</strong> semester hours for theminor. Any course used to replace an upper-level course shouldalso be classified as upper level.For a listing <strong>of</strong> all the requirements for the bachelor’s degree, studentsshould refer to pp. 22–23.* Courses on Asian language and culture may not be <strong>of</strong>fered at all locations.Students should consult an advisor before pursuing a major in Asian studies.Asian StudiesStudents may seek either an academic major or minor in Asianstudies.Major in Asian StudiesThe Asian studies major provides an interdisciplinary overview <strong>of</strong>the life, history, politics, and cultures <strong>of</strong> Asia. It examines Asia’srich past as well as the changing contemporary scene. The curriculumfocuses on the history and culture <strong>of</strong> Asia and its localand global influence, including related social, political, and philosophicalissues.ObjectivesThe student who graduates with a major in Asian studies will beable to•Demonstrate an understanding <strong>of</strong> the historical and culturaldimensions <strong>of</strong> Asia.• Think critically and perform research in Asian studies.•Demonstrate effective communication skills, orally and inwriting.•Demonstrate an understanding <strong>of</strong> Asian social, political, andeconomic structures and their local and global influences.•Demonstrate fluency in technology appropriate for research,study, and communication in relation to Asian studies.•Understand and demonstrate knowledge <strong>of</strong> ethical and socialresponsibility issues relating to other countries.Requirements for the MajorThe major in Asian studies requires the completion <strong>of</strong> 30 semesterhours <strong>of</strong> coursework related to Asian studies, drawn fromvarious disciplines as appropriate; at least 15 <strong>of</strong> these semesterhours must be earned in courses numbered 300 or above.
