Views <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Steering Committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Virtual</strong> <strong>Campus</strong><br />
Objectives and actions for <strong>the</strong> period under consideration<br />
Berne, September 16 th , 2008<br />
For <strong>the</strong> Steering Committee (SC), <strong>the</strong> strategic objectives <strong>of</strong> this phase <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Virtual</strong> <strong>Campus</strong><br />
project hinge on <strong>the</strong> improvement in both efficiency and quality <strong>of</strong> university training in <strong>the</strong><br />
present context, including <strong>the</strong> implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bologna reform. These objectives,<br />
assigned to <strong>the</strong> SC, were <strong>the</strong> following; actions decided upon by <strong>the</strong> SC are also mentioned:<br />
• Continuation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> selection and financing <strong>of</strong> innovative projects:<br />
o for <strong>the</strong> 3 rd and 4 th consolidating phases, <strong>the</strong> SC gave priority to ‘blended<br />
learning' projects which included at least three universities; each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se<br />
projects was evaluated by two members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SC and two external experts at<br />
an international level;<br />
o an improved integration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> UAS (Universities <strong>of</strong> Applied Sciences),<br />
supported by <strong>the</strong>ir authorities with ad hoc financing.<br />
• The maintenance, durability and enhancement <strong>of</strong> existing projects:<br />
o <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> maintenance support for <strong>the</strong> projects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two first phases;<br />
o long-term development <strong>of</strong> support in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> platforms provided by<br />
SWITCH, with <strong>the</strong> establishment <strong>of</strong> a task force;<br />
o preparation <strong>of</strong> a durable solution for maintaining projects which has been<br />
realized, as well as <strong>the</strong>ir extensive enhancement at both <strong>Swiss</strong> and<br />
international levels.<br />
• The consolidation or setting up <strong>of</strong> competence, service and production Centres<br />
(CCSP) in each university.<br />
• The development <strong>of</strong> services and mandates which serve <strong>the</strong> interests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> totality <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> projects:<br />
o provision <strong>of</strong> efficient support by <strong>the</strong> co-ordination group;<br />
o setting up project monitoring schemes, including members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> SC and <strong>the</strong><br />
coordination group;<br />
o limiting mandates to <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> CCSP activities and <strong>the</strong> durability <strong>of</strong><br />
eLearning projects;<br />
o organisation <strong>of</strong> congresses in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> SVC-Days and seminars.
