The amount of extra time required for participants <strong>to</strong> complete the pre- and post-session<br />

questionnaires and <strong>to</strong> review the previous session’s questionnaires depends on the needs of the<br />

Conducting the Session<br />

Welcome<br />

Welcome participants and ask if they brought their recipes.<br />

Session Overview<br />

Say: “At the end of this session, you will be able <strong>to</strong>:<br />

Incorporate healthy eating in<strong>to</strong> daily routines, and<br />

Substitute more healthful foods for less healthful foods.”<br />

Review of the Previous Session<br />

Say: “In the last session, we learned why physical activity is important for helping everyone <strong>to</strong> lose weight<br />

or <strong>to</strong> maintain a healthy weight. We also learned easy ways <strong>to</strong> add physical activity <strong>to</strong> our daily<br />

routine.” OPTIONAL: “Finally, we learned how <strong>to</strong> identify correct footwear, and we gave special<br />

attention the footwear needs of people with diabetes.” “Before we get started with <strong>to</strong>day’s session, let’s<br />

take out our Food and Activity Trackers and see how everyone did last week.”<br />

Check-In: Weekly Pledge and GAME PLAN Food and Activity<br />

Tracker; Barrier Busters<br />

Facilitate a discussion about how group members did with keeping their pledges and<br />

using their Food and Activity Trackers. Also ask about the barriers they have faced since the last<br />

session. Ask for suggestions from group members on how <strong>to</strong> ‘bust’ these barriers.<br />

After the discussion, say: “Let’s fll out our Individual Progress Charts. This is the time <strong>to</strong> award<br />

stickers for achieving goals, making progress, and needing a helping hand.<br />

Give each participant a new Weekly Pledge form and a new GAME PLAN Food and Activity<br />

Tracker.<br />
