Physical activity for families<br />

Preparing for the Session<br />

Learning Objectives<br />

At the end of this session, participants will be able <strong>to</strong>:<br />

Identify ways <strong>to</strong> stay physically active<br />

Identify ways <strong>to</strong> partner with family and friends for physical activity<br />

Materials, Supplies, Handouts, and Equipment<br />

In addition <strong>to</strong> the general materials, supplies, and equipment listed on pages and 2 of the<br />

<strong>Program</strong> Leaders Guide, you will need the following:<br />

Appendix J: GAME PLAN Food and Activity Tracker (one copy per participant)<br />

Appendix K: Weekly Pledge form (one copy per participant)<br />

0 Tips for Family Fitness Fun brochure (one per participant, plus some extras) (see information<br />

for ordering in the following section)<br />

Appendix Q: Energize Yourself! Stay Physically Active (one per participant, plus some extras)<br />

(see information for ordering in the following section)<br />

A medium-sized ball (such as a beach ball)<br />

Pho<strong>to</strong>copies of the calendar at the end of this lesson plan, or pho<strong>to</strong>copied pages from an actual<br />

calendar of the upcoming month for your program (at least one per participant), plus colored<br />

pencils for writing on and decorating calendars<br />

Tape for posting calendars on the wall<br />

Original Pre– and Post–Session 6 Questionnaires <strong>to</strong> return <strong>to</strong> participants<br />

Advance Preparation<br />

In addition <strong>to</strong> the general advance preparation described in the <strong>Program</strong> Leader’s<br />

Resource Guide, you will need <strong>to</strong> do the following:<br />

Pho<strong>to</strong>copy the GAME PLAN Food and Activity Tracker (Appendix J) and Weekly Pledge form<br />

(Appendix K) (one copy per participant).<br />

Make copies of the 0 Tips for Family Fitness Fun brochure for each participant, plus a few<br />

extras. To receive a free copy of “99 Tips for Family Fitness Fun,” send a stamped-self addressed<br />
