It refers to the recent death of " my sister "and to the state of his own health as reasons for the settlement. Mr. AlexanderScrymgeour, advocate, of Birkhill is universal legatee and executor. John, Henryand David Scrymgeour, brothers to the said Alexander, are left legacies. £200 isalso left to " Janet Hewet, my cousin, daughter to the reverend Mr. George Hewet andMarion Scrymgeour, aunt to the said Alexander " and £300 " to my cousius Janetand Margaret Watsons, daughters to (Alexander) Watson, surgeon, and Jean Scrymgeour,also aunt to the said Alexander Scrymgeour. vi, v, 40.653. 1778-79 (date wanting)—Memorial or case for opinion on behalf of AlexanderScrymgeour-Wedderburn as to his succession to Mrs. Grizel Wedderburn. It statesthat he in fact succeeds by virtue of her entail, but that " if there had been nosettlement he would have succeeded in right of his great grandmother who was sisterto the tailzier's grandfather."
