THE REGISTER OF THE PRIVY SEAL.This register dates from 1491 to 1873, and has never been published. I have had it Privy Sealsearched in <strong>the</strong> original from its earliest date down to 1650, after which <strong>the</strong> record is Re& isterblank till 1661, when it is renewed in two series, English and Latin. A brief note <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>o<strong>the</strong>r records <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Privy Seal will be found in <strong>the</strong> tabular synopsis at p. 360.1. 1512. July 30.—At Edinburgh. Commission to James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, burgess <strong>of</strong>Dundee, making him customer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> burgh and freedom <strong>of</strong> Dundee during <strong>the</strong> King'swill, with power to use <strong>the</strong> said <strong>of</strong>fice, and to appoint deputies, with command to allconcerned to loose and load at <strong>the</strong> port <strong>of</strong> Dundee, and at no o<strong>the</strong>r place, under pain<strong>of</strong> escheat <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> goods, (iv, 196.)2. 1528. Dec 6.— At Edinburgh. Precept for remission to George <strong>Wedderburn</strong>,bro<strong>the</strong>r german to James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, elder, burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee, for assistingArchibald, sometime Earl <strong>of</strong> Angus, against <strong>the</strong> King, &o. Respite granted to John <strong>Wedderburn</strong> for slaughter<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> deceased John Thomsoun, to last for <strong>the</strong> space <strong>of</strong> 19 years, (vm, 35.)4. 1538. Jan. 6.—At Linlithgow. Respite to Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, son <strong>of</strong> James<strong>Wedderburn</strong>, burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee, for <strong>the</strong> slaughter <strong>of</strong> — Malisoun, and for all actionor crime, (xi, 43.)5. 1538. Sept. 8.— At Linlithgow. Gift to Gilbert <strong>Wedderburn</strong> and John Paterson,burgesses <strong>of</strong> Dundee, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> escheat <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lands, goods, &c, formerly belonging to<strong>the</strong>m, but which were in <strong>the</strong> King's hands through <strong>the</strong>ir being convicted <strong>of</strong> heresy.(xii, 23.)•
