John Dnnlop <strong>of</strong> Ilalpland. <strong>The</strong>summons is named as being in <strong>the</strong> hands (for service) <strong>of</strong> Robert Weddirburne, <strong>of</strong>ficerand sheriff in that part, (iv, 73.)Bonschaw is in Dumfries-shire, and Halpland in <strong>the</strong> district ol Cuiminghame, co. Ayr. " Sheriffin that part" signifies "in that matter," or '"for that oc<strong>ca</strong>sion, "and doesnot referto <strong>the</strong> places mentioned.14. 1591. May 26.—Complaint by William Milburne v, Robert Jaksoun, burgess <strong>of</strong>1 hmdee, for assault. It recites that Jaksoun asked him " giff he wes ane Englishman,"and that on his saving that " swa he \ves, ; 'Jaksoun struct him in <strong>the</strong> face ; and that<strong>the</strong>reafter Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, younger, burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee, <strong>ca</strong>me to him ei<strong>the</strong>r fromJaksoun, or ''<strong>of</strong> his awne heid," and took him to a house when Jaksoun againassaulted him, while <strong>Wedderburn</strong> took his '' hors being quhyte iu cullour, with twahundreth merkis " out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hands <strong>of</strong> his boy and " deliverit him in <strong>the</strong> handis <strong>of</strong>Jaksoun quha lapt on and raid away with him."
