Oct. 29.—<strong>The</strong> council propose to retire a bond given by <strong>the</strong> town to <strong>the</strong>Laird <strong>of</strong> Blackness, clerk to <strong>the</strong> bills. May 4.—<strong>The</strong> clerk presented his gift <strong>of</strong> clerkship, and desired that he mighthave freedom to make choice <strong>of</strong> his own depute, with consent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> council, conformto <strong>the</strong> tenor <strong>of</strong> his gift granted to him in 1685, and homolgate at his admissionin 1696. (a) Feb. 28.—<strong>The</strong> committee appointed to meet with James Kyd <strong>of</strong> Craigie,and Thomas Miln <strong>of</strong> Milnfield, about <strong>the</strong> sale <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lands <strong>of</strong> Logie, reported that<strong>the</strong> lairds <strong>of</strong> Craigie and Milnfield would give no more than <strong>the</strong> 17,500 merks formerly<strong>of</strong>fered, which <strong>the</strong>y now did in <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Sir Alexander Wedderbnrn, <strong>of</strong> Blackness.Whereon <strong>the</strong> council having considered Sir Alexander's <strong>of</strong>fer for <strong>the</strong> said lands,. . .unanimously approve it, and order a disposition by <strong>the</strong> town in his favour to be drawnup. with a clause <strong>of</strong> absolute warrandice, (b) March 21.—<strong>The</strong> council and deaconssubscribe and deliver to Sir Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, <strong>of</strong> Blackness, a disposition <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> lands <strong>of</strong> Logie, with <strong>the</strong> writs, except <strong>the</strong> town's charter under <strong>the</strong> Great Seal,to be delivered against <strong>the</strong> term <strong>of</strong> Whitsunday next, <strong>the</strong> price being 17,500 merks.(523-25.)156. 1707.
