Sept. 21.—James <strong>Wedderburn</strong> is elected a counsellor.41. 1615. April 11.—Mr. James <strong>Wedderburn</strong> acts as notary to an assedation. (22.)42. 1615. Sept. 20.— Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, merchant, is elected on <strong>the</strong> council andput on <strong>the</strong> leet for bailie. (26.)43. 1615. Oct. 3.—Mr. Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, younger, elected Sept. 24, accepts <strong>the</strong><strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> bailie, and gives his oath for faithful administration. Nov. 14.—Compeared Mr. Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, common clerk <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> burgh<strong>of</strong> Dundee, and declared that he was employed to attend this winter season, in hisMajesty's service, as one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Commissioners, appointed by Act <strong>of</strong> Parliament forplanting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kirks and modifying <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> stipends <strong>of</strong> ministers serving <strong>the</strong> cure <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> said Kirks, and that being <strong>ca</strong>reful that in his absence his <strong>of</strong>fice be served, he has,with consent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Provost, "bailies and council, nominated and elected Mr. James"<strong>Wedderburn</strong>, his lawful son, to be his depute and substitute in his <strong>of</strong>fice, giving himpower to use <strong>the</strong> same in all respects as any clerk depute within any burgh in <strong>the</strong>realm, untill it shall please Mr. Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong> to discharge him, withoutprejudice to <strong>the</strong> right <strong>of</strong> Mr. James <strong>Wedderburn</strong> to <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice. <strong>The</strong> said Mr. James<strong>Wedderburn</strong> accepts cf <strong>the</strong> same, and gives his oath for <strong>the</strong> faithful administration<strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>. Aug. 15. —James Gibsone, merchant, is convicted, on his own confession, <strong>of</strong>slandering Magdalene <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, wife <strong>of</strong> Thomas Jack, merchant, and JanetClayhills, wife <strong>of</strong> Thomas Wichtane, in <strong>the</strong> market place <strong>of</strong> Perth, and is fined andbound over. (59.)47. 1623. Oct. 2.—James <strong>Wedderburn</strong> is elected kirk-master. (66.)48. 1624. Sept. 24.—Mr. Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, younger, is elected dean <strong>of</strong> gild. May 25.— Mr. James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>e, present common, clerk <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> burgh <strong>of</strong><strong>of</strong> Dundee, being sick and bedfast, and <strong>the</strong>reby not being able to exercise and use his<strong>of</strong>fice during that time, and being <strong>ca</strong>reful that no neighbour nor inhabitant <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>be harmed nor frustrated in <strong>the</strong>ir particular "adoes," appoints, with consent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>magistrates, Thomas Fyff, his servitor, his depute and substitute in <strong>the</strong> said <strong>of</strong>fice,during <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> his sickness.
