July 4.—Bond (Kelso, 2 April 1673) by Charles Pott in Kelso, to PeterWea<strong>the</strong>rburn, merchant in Edinburgh, for £2-16 scots. (Dur. 33.)<strong>The</strong> only member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Forfarshire family with whom <strong>the</strong> grantee <strong>of</strong> this laud <strong>ca</strong>n be identifiedis <strong>the</strong> third surviving sou <strong>of</strong> Sir Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong> <strong>of</strong> Blackness. He was, however, a merchantiu Dundee and not in Ediuburgh, although he may have traded <strong>the</strong>re. <strong>The</strong> spelling <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> name,in a manner indi<strong>ca</strong>tive <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North <strong>of</strong> England or South <strong>of</strong> Scotland, is also in favour <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>reference being to a member <strong>of</strong> a distinct family. <strong>The</strong> parish registers <strong>of</strong> Kelso, <strong>the</strong> births <strong>of</strong> whichhave been searched, 1598—1800, contain only three <strong>Wedderburn</strong> entries, viz. : those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> threedaughters <strong>of</strong> a John <strong>Wedderburn</strong> (perhaps <strong>the</strong> sou <strong>of</strong> this Peter) and Agnes Turner, all born and baptisedat Kelso,—Margaret, 1.4, 15 Oct. 1706, tirizle, 17,21 Dec. 1707, and Elizabeth, 10, 11 Dec. 1709.183. 1674. (a) Aug. 7.— Disposition (1 June,'2 July 1674) by Sir Peter <strong>Wedderburn</strong><strong>of</strong> Gosford, one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> senators <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Justice, and formerly clerk toH.M. Privy Council, with consent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Earls <strong>of</strong> Tweeddale, Kin<strong>ca</strong>rdine, and] luudonald, and o<strong>the</strong>rs, commissioners <strong>of</strong> George, Earl <strong>of</strong> Wintoun, <strong>of</strong> part <strong>of</strong> anannual-rent, furth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lands and barony <strong>of</strong> Tranent, in favour <strong>of</strong> Andrew Russell<strong>of</strong> Edinburgh.
