——INDEX.Index. The references in this index are to the volume and the page. The numerous- references to themembers of the Wedderbum family in Vol. II. are already indexed under the account of each individualof the name in Vol. I., and are not. therefore, repeated in this index, where the references under theheadingof Wedderbum are to Vol. I. only. The several members of the different families of the name,distinct from the main family, of whom accounts are given in Part VI. of Vol. I., are also not alwaysindividually indexed, but will be found by reference to the counties or places from wJiich they come. Theother articles have been necessarily made as brief as possible. It has been impossible to separately identifyin the index every person named ; to have done so ivould have involved an elaborate inquiry intothe history of many families. Thus it must not be taken that all the references collected in the indexto a given name refer to the same individual ; on the contrary, they may, and often do, refer to differentpersons of the same name.
