Chapter 3 — Start-UpBulletin No. 50006-519-01BAvailable Motor Torque December 1996Overspeed Operation(f ≥ 60 Hz)With an adjustable frequency drive controller, operation at speeds greater thanmotor nameplate speed may be possible. The following must be considered:CAUTIONMACHINERY OVERSPEEDSome motors and/or loads may not be suited for operation above nameplate motorspeed and frequency. Consult motor manufacturer before operating motor above ratedspeed.Failure to follow this instruction can result in injury or equipment damage. The drive controller is incapable of producing additional output voltage whenoperating above the nominal output frequency (60 Hz). When operating above thenominal output frequency, the available continuous motor torque will begin todecrease along with the motor maximum overtorque capability. Consult the motormanufacturer for continuous and overtorque torque capabilities of the particularmotor.Driving Torque ProductionEnvelopeFigure 22 illustrates a typical continuous torque and overtorque driving capabilityfor a typical NEMA Design B, 1.0 service factor motor with variable torque loads. For 1.15 service factor motors, the continuous torque rating is 1.0 times the motorrated torque value from 50 to 100% of motor nameplate rated speed.• Normal control type:— 100% torque typical at 50% of nominal frequency (over 2:1 speed range)— Torque decreases linearly to 50% at 0.1 Hz— Transient overtorque, typical ±10%:— ATV56U41N4 to D79N4 and ATV56U41M2 to D46M2: 110% torque for60 s.• NOLD control type:— 100% torque typical at 50% of nominal frequency (over 2:1 speed range)— Torque decreases linearly to 50% at 10% of nominal frequency— Transient overtorque, typical ±10%:— ATV56U41N4 to D79N4 and ATV56U41M2 to D46M2: 110% torque for60 s.T/Tn1.110.70.50.33211 Continuous useful torque2 Transient overtorque3 Transient overtorque during accelerationFn = nominal frequency00.1 FnfFn FmaxFigure 22: Typical Torque Curves38 © 1996 Square D All Rights Reservedηττπ://νιχοντρολσ.χοm
