c. The tuition fees of veterans of armed forces who served in either a<br />

combat or combat support role in the invasion of Grenada, the peace<br />

keeping mission in Lebanon, or service during Operation Desert Shield<br />

<strong>and</strong> Operation Desert Storm (8/1/90-6/30/94) shall be waived. To be<br />

eligible for such waiver, a veteran must be a resident of Connecticut at<br />

the time he/she is accepted for admission <strong>and</strong> be honorably discharged<br />

or released under honorable conditions from active service in the armed<br />

forces. “Combat or combat support role” means assigned to the theatre<br />

of operations during the invasion or peace-keeping mission. Persons<br />

who believe they may qualify for this waiver of tuition should speak<br />

with the representative of Veterans Affairs in the Financial Aid office<br />

for further information about eligibility requirements.<br />

d. FOR THE ELDERLY, QUALIFIED VETERANS AND THE CHILDREN<br />

OF CERTAIN VETERANS. (General Fund Classes Only)<br />

Students age 62 or older may register with a tuition <strong>and</strong> fee waiver on<br />

the last day of Walk-In Registration. Proof of age must be submitted<br />

to the Business office to complete the eligibility requirements for this<br />

waiver.<br />

e. Tuition may be waived or remitted by the President, or his designated appointee,<br />

for any in-state student who demonstrates substantial financial<br />

need <strong>and</strong> who is enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis in a degree<br />

or certificate program or a pre-college remedial program.<br />

f. Tuition shall be waived for any student attending the Connecticut State<br />

Police Academy who is enrolled in a criminal justice program at the<br />

Academy that is offered in coordination with a regional community college<br />

that accredits courses taken in the program. This waiver applies<br />

only to courses taken at the Connecticut State Police Academy <strong>and</strong><br />

not to course work required for a degree taken at the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

g. The tuition fees of any eligible member of the Connecticut Army or Air<br />

National Guard shall be waived. To be eligible for such waiver, a member<br />

of the Connecticut Army or Air National Guard must (1) be a resident<br />

of Connecticut, (2) present certification by the Adjutant General or<br />

his designee as a member in good st<strong>and</strong>ing of the Guard, <strong>and</strong> (3) be<br />

enrolled or accepted for admission to a regional community college on<br />

a full-time or part-time basis in a degree granting program. The tuition<br />

waiver shall be reduced by the amount of any educational reimbursement<br />

received from an employer.<br />

h. The <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> Presidents are authorized to waive the Student<br />

Activity Fee only for students enrolled in Tuition Fund financed courses<br />

offered at off-campus locations.<br />

3) General Fees are applicable to both Tuition Fund <strong>and</strong> Extension Fund<br />

students, except the TV course <strong>and</strong> courses by newspaper.<br />

4) On-campus Extension Fee: rate applies to on-campus Extension Fee<br />

courses that permit the colleges to enroll additional students beyond the<br />

level supported by the General Fund.<br />

5) Not applicable for the following: (a) CONNTAC applicants, (b) Upward<br />

Bound applicants <strong>and</strong> (c) needy <strong>and</strong> deprived students as determined by<br />

college.<br />

6) Not applicable if student paid the $20 application fee.<br />

7) CLEP exam fees are payable to <strong>College</strong> Level Examination Board <strong>and</strong> are<br />

not deposited or held in state accounts.<br />

<strong>College</strong> Presidents, with the approval of the Executive Director, are authorized<br />

to waive general <strong>and</strong> special fees of students enrolled in special programs<br />

when the circumstances justify such action.<br />

Refunds<br />

Refunds of Tuition Only<br />

(Refunds of tuition paid by charge card will be processed as a check refund.)<br />

Requests for the refund of General Fund (state supported) tuition must be<br />

made in person or in writing. Requests made by telephone will not be accepted.<br />

Fees will not be refunded (see single exception on Connecticut <strong>Community</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> System of Fees, page 9). First-time students on financial aid<br />

should refer to the following page for refund procedures.<br />

General Fund Courses:<br />

Students who wish to withdraw from the <strong>College</strong> shall direct their requests in<br />

writing for refunds to the Registrar. Refunds are made according to the conditions<br />

<strong>and</strong> in the amount set forth as follows:<br />

If notice of complete withdrawal from the <strong>College</strong> is received prior to the first<br />

day of classes of the semester, 100 percent of the tuition only for all courses<br />

in which one has registered will be refunded. If notice of withdrawal is received<br />

within the first 14 calendar days of the semester, a 50 percent refund of tuition<br />

only will be made.<br />

If notice of a reduction in course load is received during the first 14 calendar<br />

days of the semester, a refund of 50 percent of the difference in tuition only<br />

between the original <strong>and</strong> revised schedules will be made.<br />

No refunds will be granted beyond the 14th calendar day of the semester,<br />

except that a 100 percent refund of tuition <strong>and</strong> fees will be granted to students<br />

who enter the armed services before earning degree credit in any semester,<br />

provided that they shall have submitted in writing a notice of withdrawal <strong>and</strong><br />

a certified copy of enlistment papers.<br />

Any exception must be submitted to the Dean of Students in writing with a<br />

detailed description of the circumstances. Circumstances that will NOT be<br />

considered are: changes to work hours, commuting difficulties or dissatisfaction<br />

with course content. Regardless of circumstances, refund requests cannot<br />

be considered after the 14th calendar day of the semester.<br />

Refund Policy for Continuing Education Courses<br />

If the <strong>College</strong> cancels a Continuing Education course, students will receive<br />

a full refund of all tuition <strong>and</strong> service fees. This does not include the $20.00<br />

one-time application fee for new credit students that is non-refundable.<br />

A student who drops from a credit extension course prior to its first scheduled<br />

meeting will receive a full refund of tuition only, provided that a written request<br />

for refund is received by the office of the Registrar no later than 4 p.m. on the<br />

day before the first scheduled class meeting. (Requests must be made by 12:<br />

00 noon on Friday for a course starting Saturday-Monday.) When a student<br />

drops from a credit course, the <strong>College</strong> Service Fee, Student Activity Fee,<br />

<strong>and</strong> the one-time application fee for new students are non-refundable. No<br />

refunds will be made past the allowable drop period. Note: Credit Extension<br />

includes Weekend <strong>College</strong>, Winter Intercession, Summer Session <strong>and</strong> offcampus<br />

courses.<br />

Exceptions:<br />

Exceptions that will be considered by the Dean of Continuing Education are:<br />

severe illness of the student or an immediate family member as verified by<br />

a physician, or administrative error. Any exception must be submitted to the<br />

Dean of Continuing Education in writing with a detailed description of the<br />

circumstances. Circumstances that will NOT be considered are: changes in<br />

work hours, commuting difficulties, or dissatisfaction with instructor or course<br />

content. Regardless of circumstances, refund requests cannot be considered<br />

<strong>and</strong> exceptions will not be made after the second class meeting.<br />
