Student Affairs<br />

The primary goal of the Student Affairs Division is to assist students in<br />

developing their potential, both personally <strong>and</strong> intellectually. Ideally, such<br />

development includes an enhanced ability towards intellectual capacity <strong>and</strong><br />

achievements; emotional, spiritual, <strong>and</strong> physical wellness; social interaction;<br />

vocational aptitudes <strong>and</strong> skills; moral values; global perspectives; economic resources;<br />

effective citizenship <strong>and</strong> esthetic response. While providing essential<br />

services in partnership with the academic mission of the institution, Student<br />

Affairs contributes significantly, directly <strong>and</strong> collaboratively, to the student’s<br />

total education <strong>and</strong> development.<br />

Learning Outcomes<br />

Upon graduation from <strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>, learners will:<br />

1. Demonstrate an enhanced self-underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> ability to function<br />

independently <strong>and</strong> responsibly in the following areas:<br />

• decision making<br />

• goal/values clarification<br />

• abstract thinking<br />

• accountability (ethics)<br />

2. Demonstrate an enhanced ability to function in socially <strong>and</strong> culturally<br />

diverse communities.<br />

3. Demonstrate an enhanced ability to function in a team environment,<br />

respecting the individuality <strong>and</strong> collective responsibilities of the group.<br />

4. Demonstrate an enhanced underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the significance <strong>and</strong> interconnections<br />

of physical, spiritual <strong>and</strong> emotional wellness.<br />

Activities <strong>and</strong> Services<br />

Accident Insurance (860-512-3262)<br />

Enrolled students are carried automatically by group accident insurance while<br />

they are attending classes, or participating – <strong>and</strong> while traveling directly to or<br />

from – an activity sponsored by the <strong>College</strong>. Students may purchase a 24hour<br />

accident <strong>and</strong> sickness insurance through this policy. Students who wish<br />

to inquire about health insurance should contact Kathleen Franklin, Director<br />

of Health Services, Lowe Building, room L-101.<br />

Alumni Association (860-512-2906)<br />

The Alumni Association exists to promote <strong>and</strong> maintain an active interest in<br />

the <strong>College</strong>, to support its educational purposes, <strong>and</strong> to promote <strong>and</strong> maintain<br />

communications among alumni. A Board of Directors made up of alumni<br />

oversee fundraising <strong>and</strong> spending for the Association which is a 501(c)(3)<br />

non-profit organization. Members do not have to be graduates. Anyone who<br />

has completed one course at MCC is eligible to join. The Alumni Association<br />

annually funds scholarships <strong>and</strong> programs at MCC.<br />

Art (860-512-2693)<br />

Visual art, by professional artists <strong>and</strong> MCC students, is on display throughout<br />

the campus. The Hans Weiss Newspace Gallery, located in the AST, hosts<br />

monthly exhibitions of work by local <strong>and</strong> international artists, both acclaimed<br />

<strong>and</strong> emerging. Additionally, student art <strong>and</strong> pieces from outside artists are<br />

continually on display throughout the campus.<br />

Athletics (860-512-3353)<br />

MCC began its organized intercollegiate athletics program in 1963. Today, the<br />

Athletics <strong>and</strong> Fitness Department provides intercollegiate athletic programs<br />

for men in baseball <strong>and</strong> soccer; <strong>and</strong> for women in basketball <strong>and</strong> soccer. MCC<br />

student athletes have the opportunity to compete in an educational environment<br />

where intrinsic values such as sportsmanship, discipline, cooperation,<br />

leadership <strong>and</strong> respect for opponents are emphasized..<br />

The <strong>College</strong>’s athletic facilities include a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art<br />

Fitness Center, a baseball field, softball field, soccer field, <strong>and</strong> the use of the<br />

gymnasium at East Catholic High School.<br />

<strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> is a Division III (non-scholarship) member<br />

of Region XXI in the National Junior <strong>College</strong> Athletic Association (NJCAA).<br />

Fitness Center<br />

The MCC Fitness Center is run by the Athletics <strong>and</strong> Fitness Department <strong>and</strong><br />

offers seminars, fitness testing, <strong>and</strong> personal exercise program planning.<br />

The Center is equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment including<br />

stairmasters, treadmills, rowing machines, upper body exercisers, exercise<br />

bikes, universal machine stations, <strong>and</strong> free weights. Use of the Fitness Center<br />

requires membership registration. For more information about Fitness Center<br />

Campus Safety <strong>and</strong> Security (860-512-3680)<br />

In accordance with Connecticut Public Act 90-259, An Act Concerning<br />

Campus Safety, the <strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> Uniform Campus Crime<br />

Report (UCCR) is available, upon request, in the library <strong>and</strong> the Campus<br />

Police Department.<br />

Career Services (860-512-3372)<br />

The Career Services office provides comprehensive programs, activities <strong>and</strong><br />

services designed to assist students, alumni, <strong>and</strong> community residents at all<br />

levels of their education. Acquiring effective job search skills is a valuable part<br />

of the educational experience <strong>and</strong> students are encouraged to visit the Career<br />

Services office to seek advice, support <strong>and</strong> information.<br />
