Program Design<br />
The purpose of the Graphic Design Multimedia Option is:<br />
• to provide a multimedia transfer program in the area of digital design with<br />
an emphasis on the computer as a tool for the creation of animated <strong>and</strong><br />
interactive presentation;<br />
• to offer a degree program for those considering an entry level position in<br />
fields related to digital composition (animation, interactive programming,<br />
digital illustration).<br />
• to provide greater technical knowledge of the creative visual arts as they<br />
apply to multimedia design <strong>and</strong> production.<br />
The program is structured to equip students with a sound foundation in technical<br />
skills, graphic design concepts, aesthetics, terminology <strong>and</strong> vocabulary <strong>and</strong><br />
to provide awareness of the application of creative <strong>and</strong> critical thinking in the<br />
use of technical knowledge. A strong emphasis has been placed on the use<br />
of the computer as a production <strong>and</strong> composing tool. For more information<br />

Learning Outcomes<br />
Upon successful completion of all Multimedia Option, Graphic Design degree<br />
program requirements, graduates will<br />
1. Demonstrate an underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> appreciation of graphic design as<br />
a form of communication <strong>and</strong> art.<br />
2. Demonstrate an ability to use design processes <strong>and</strong> principles to<br />
create visual products that convey a specific message to a targeted<br />
audience.<br />
3. Demonstrate creative thinking skills <strong>and</strong> strategies <strong>and</strong> use problemsolving<br />
techniques across a wide range of media.<br />
4. Demonstrate an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of how creative processes <strong>and</strong> skills<br />
are integrated with printing <strong>and</strong> other reproduction processes found<br />
in the graphic design field.<br />
5. Demonstrate an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of non-print distribution systems such<br />
as CD-ROM, computer networks <strong>and</strong> the Internet.<br />
6. Demonstrate an awareness of the varied career paths within the graphics<br />
<strong>and</strong> media industries including, but not limited to, art direction,<br />
illustration, project design, production art, graphic design <strong>and</strong> media<br />
director, interactivity interface design, <strong>and</strong> digital video production <strong>and</strong><br />
editing.<br />
In addition, the graduate will complete the comprehensive learning outcomes<br />
identified with the General Education Component.<br />
