GENERAL INFORMATION<br />

Refunds continued<br />

Withdrawal from a Continuing Education Credit-Free Course:<br />

Refunds are issued only for credit-free courses that MCC cancels, or if a written<br />

request is received five (5) business days prior to the first scheduled class<br />

meeting. Regardless of circumstances, no exceptions will be considered.<br />

Requests for refunds may be made: in person (room LRC B-147 in the Learning<br />

Resource Center), by fax (860-512-2801), or mail (Continuing Education,<br />

MS #16, MCC, P.O. Box 1046, <strong>Manchester</strong>, CT 06045-1046).<br />

It is the student’s responsibility to call Continuing Education at (860) 512-2800<br />

at least five (5) business days prior to the start date of the class to verify receipt<br />

of the written request for refund. If you fail to call <strong>and</strong> we have no record of<br />

your request, you are ineligible for a refund. Refunds take approximately four<br />

to six weeks to process.<br />

Financial Aid<br />

The Financial Aid Program at <strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> is designed to<br />

provide access for as many eligible students as current funding will allow. The<br />

prime objective of our Financial Aid program is to meet the basic expenses of<br />

tuition, fees <strong>and</strong> books. (At the time of registration, all students are required<br />

to pay their fees.) In addition, many recipients qualify for refund checks that<br />

repay their initial expenses for supplies <strong>and</strong> transportation costs. Also, many<br />

other students are eligible for work study <strong>and</strong> student loans to more fully<br />

meet their expenses for room, board, transportation, <strong>and</strong> personal, health<br />

<strong>and</strong> child care costs.<br />

Basic Eligibility Criteria:<br />

To be eligible for financial aid, a student must:<br />

• Be a citizen or eligible non-citizen of the United States;<br />

• Be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program (audited courses<br />

do not count towards enrollment status);<br />

• Have a high school diploma or GED on file at the Admissions office;<br />

• Be registered with Selective Service, if male; <strong>and</strong><br />

• Be in academic good st<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> maintaining satisfactory progress according<br />

to federal regulations.<br />

How to Apply:<br />

1) Apply through the internet (FAFSA on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov) or<br />

complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) <strong>and</strong> mail<br />

it to the processor as soon as possible. In order for us to receive your<br />

application information from the processor, you must include MCC as<br />

one of the colleges you plan to attend. The Title IV code is 001392.<br />

2) Enroll in an eligible degree program through the Admissions office.<br />

3) Submit tax returns, corrections <strong>and</strong> any other required documentation<br />

to the Financial Aid office in a timely manner.<br />

4) Log on to www.online.commnet.edu to check your status.<br />

Deadlines<br />

• Priority is given to early, accurate financial aid applicants.<br />

• To ensure timely consideration, you should have your paperwork on file in<br />

the Financial Aid office by May 15 for the fall semester <strong>and</strong> Oct. 1 for the<br />

spring semester.<br />

• After these dates, applications will be processed on a rolling basis throughout<br />

the year.<br />

AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION,<br />

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PAY THEIR FEES.<br />

Deferment of Tuition<br />

Students who are financial aid eligible <strong>and</strong> have met all the necessary requirements<br />

(steps 1 through 4 above) by May 15 for the fall semester <strong>and</strong> October<br />

1 for the spring semester will be entitled to a deferment of their tuition.<br />

A student who is entitled to a deferment of their tuition will not be required to<br />

pay by the tuition due date. Instead, the Business office will be notified electronically<br />

of the student’s award, before the tuition due date. Tuition due to the<br />

<strong>College</strong> will be deducted from their financial aid award.<br />

Also, under certain conditions, you may have to pay the amount due at<br />

a later date. These conditions include, but are not limited to:<br />

• failure to respond in a timely manner to requests for missing information;<br />

• withdrawal from any or all courses;<br />

• unsatisfactory academic progress;<br />

• a final review of the application that results in your not being eligible<br />

for aid; <strong>and</strong><br />

• non-attendance of courses.<br />

Student Loans<br />

• Students are advised to wait for a complete review of their eligibility for<br />

other forms of financial aid before submitting loan applications.<br />

• Students who are applying for a loan must also complete the above application<br />

process.<br />

• Student Loan Applications are available in the Financial Aid office. This<br />

application must be completed <strong>and</strong> submitted to the Financial Aid office.<br />

• The deadline for submission of loan applications is October 1 for the fall<br />

<strong>and</strong> April 1 for the spring.<br />

Book Purchases<br />

At the time of registration, all students are required to pay their fees. There is no<br />

financial aid book charge at MCC. Students are responsible for paying for their<br />

books at the start of each semester. Students are advised to have “start up”<br />

money set aside for fees, books, supplies, <strong>and</strong> initial transportation costs.
