Marketing, A.S. Degree<br />
Program Design<br />
The Marketing associate degree program is for students who wish to enter<br />
managerial or proprietary positions in marketing. To complete this program, you<br />
will take courses in marketing, business, accounting, <strong>and</strong> general education.<br />
Students interested in transferring to earn a bachelor’s degree should register<br />
in the Accounting <strong>and</strong> Business Administration Transfer Program.<br />
Curriculum<br />
Students may enroll in this program full- or part-time. Students must achieve at<br />
least a C or better in an accounting course to continue on to the next level. Note:<br />
All business courses numbered 100 or higher require students to be eligible for<br />
ENG* 101 except BBG* 234. All accounting courses numbered 100 or higher<br />
require students to be eligible for ENG* 101 <strong>and</strong> MAT* 095 or higher.<br />

Learning Outcomes<br />
Upon successful completion of all Marketing degree program requirements,<br />
graduates will<br />
1. Prepare <strong>and</strong> interpret financial statements <strong>and</strong> utilize accounting for<br />
managerial decisions.<br />
2. Underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> discuss financial issues dealing with the environment<br />
of managerial finance; including working capital management, shortterm<br />
financing, capital markets, <strong>and</strong> the theory of the value of the firm<br />
(risk, leverage, cost of capital).<br />
3. Generally underst<strong>and</strong> our legal system <strong>and</strong> be able to apply principles<br />
of contract law, sales law under Article II of the Uniform Commercial<br />
Code, <strong>and</strong> the law of agency to business situations.<br />
4. Discuss partnership <strong>and</strong> corporation law, property, wills <strong>and</strong> estates,<br />
commercial paper, the bank collection process, secured transactions<br />
<strong>and</strong> creditors’ rights, <strong>and</strong> government regulation of business.<br />
5. Analyze principles, techniques, <strong>and</strong> major functions (planning, organizing<br />
lending <strong>and</strong> controlling) of business enterprise management.<br />
6. Underst<strong>and</strong> marketing methods <strong>and</strong> institutions, including analysis <strong>and</strong><br />
interrelationship of the marketing mix.<br />
7. Demonstrate computer skills appropriate to his/her focus area including<br />
word processing, electronic spreadsheet, database management,<br />
general ledger accounting system, <strong>and</strong> presentation software.<br />
8. Use the Internet for business purposes, including research, marketing,<br />
<strong>and</strong> stock market analysis.<br />
9. Demonstrate an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of how the United States economic<br />
system is organized, how it functions <strong>and</strong> how it impacts the global<br />
economy.<br />
10. Successfully enter the business world in the field of marketing.<br />
11. Demonstrate proficiencies in reading, writing, listening, presentation<br />
<strong>and</strong> analytical skills.<br />
12. Work with others, including culturally <strong>and</strong> intellectually diverse people;<br />
think critically; <strong>and</strong> gain an appreciation for life-long learning.<br />
13. Rationalize <strong>and</strong> present solutions to problems using marketing knowledge<br />
<strong>and</strong> knowledge from social sciences, arts, literature, mathematics<br />
<strong>and</strong> science.<br />
14. Develop sound ethical, philosophical <strong>and</strong> moral professional characteristics.<br />
15. Demonstrate a responsible attitude in relationships with employers,<br />
peers <strong>and</strong> toward the working environment.<br />
16. Underst<strong>and</strong> market theory <strong>and</strong> its applications to product planning,<br />
price determination, government regulation, <strong>and</strong> distribution cost<br />
analysis.<br />
17. Demonstrate advertising strategy, tactics <strong>and</strong> techniques, including<br />
media selection, ad preparation, market research methods, <strong>and</strong> program<br />
evaluation.<br />
18. Apply <strong>and</strong> demonstrate the principles, methods <strong>and</strong> techniques of<br />
selling <strong>and</strong> retailing.<br />
19. Demonstrate an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the interrelationships between<br />
marketing <strong>and</strong> all other areas within a business including working<br />
with other departments to achieve overall strategic goals.<br />
In addition, the graduate will complete the comprehensive learning outcomes<br />
identified with the General Education Component.<br />
