Services include regularly scheduled workshops on résumé <strong>and</strong> cover letter<br />
writing, job search skills <strong>and</strong> interviewing. Additionally, students can sharpen<br />
their job search skills by viewing the office’s comprehensive video library.<br />
Some other services include information on summer employment/internship<br />
opportunities, alumni career panels, on-campus recruiting <strong>and</strong> job fairs. Finally,<br />
the office offers an internet-based job listing service that allows students to<br />
post résumés <strong>and</strong> search full-time, part-time, <strong>and</strong> volunteer positions. To learn<br />

Academic Advising Center (860-512-3320)<br />
The <strong>College</strong> offers comprehensive academic advising services for all new,<br />
returning <strong>and</strong> transfer students. Students have the opportunity to discuss<br />
their specific academic goals, placement test results, planned programs of<br />
study <strong>and</strong> degree/certificate program requirements with trained academic<br />
advisors/counselors. In addition to assisting students in establishing a solid<br />
academic foundation, the Academic Advising Center offers students early<br />
access to academic division directors, program coordinators, <strong>and</strong> faculty to<br />
provide appropriate academic mentorship. All students are encouraged to<br />
connect with advising services each semester of their college experience.<br />
Students may schedule appointments through the Advising Center or by<br />
contacting their faculty advisor.<br />
Each semester returning students are encouraged to meet with a faculty advisor<br />
from their selected program during Advising Weeks. Advising Weeks begin<br />
each semester prior to the beginning of registration. A list of faculty members<br />
participating in Advising Weeks is posted in the Counseling Center, L-108.<br />
New students are scheduled for placement testing <strong>and</strong> academic advising<br />
appointments prior to their first registration experience. Further, the Advising<br />
Center assists new students with their registration/course selection process,<br />
<strong>and</strong> conducts information sessions during New Student Orientation.<br />

<strong>College</strong> Learning Center (860-512-3303)<br />
The <strong>College</strong> Learning Center (CLC) offers many opportunities for academic<br />
support to students of all ability levels. Individual or small group tutoring, sub-<br />

ject-related review sessions, college survival skills workshops, <strong>and</strong> videos<br />
on strategies for succeeding in college are some of the services offered to<br />
students to enhance their underst<strong>and</strong>ing of classroom material. CLC staff is<br />
available to collaborate with instructors on specific activities to complement<br />
or supplement classroom instruction.<br />
• Computer Assisted Lab (860-512-3303)<br />
A variety of computers <strong>and</strong> basic training in Cobol; Windows; Microsoft<br />
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access; <strong>and</strong> an Introduction to the Internet are<br />
available via the Technological Literacy Project or by individual appointments.<br />
The Computer Assisted Lab is located in room L-107.<br />

Selected high failure rate courses are assigned a student leader who<br />
attends all classes <strong>and</strong> holds additional sessions to reinforce academic<br />
concepts <strong>and</strong> learning skills.<br />

Students may make day <strong>and</strong>/or evening appointments for course work<br />
tutoring in the CLC (Lowe Building, room L-134). Assistance in writing with<br />
MCC English faculty is also available in the <strong>College</strong> Writing Center, located<br />
in L-131.<br />

Counseling (860-512-3331)<br />
A staff of professional counselors provide a comprehensive developmental<br />
counseling program designed to assist students with academic, vocational<br />
<strong>and</strong> personal issues. Counselors are available by simply calling the Counseling<br />
secretary to schedule an appointment. Limited walk-in services are also<br />
available.<br />
Group sessions <strong>and</strong> workshops are provided throughout the year on a wide<br />
range of topics <strong>and</strong> issues related to goal setting, motivation, self-assurance,<br />
stress management, career planning <strong>and</strong> transfer. Counselors also offer credit<br />
courses dealing with career life planning <strong>and</strong> creating college success.<br />
Any student planning to transfer <strong>and</strong> continue their studies at another college<br />
is advised to schedule an appointment with a counselor by the end of their first<br />
year (or 30 credits) to discuss transfer opportunities, admissions requirements<br />
<strong>and</strong> targeted course planning.<br />
Minority <strong>and</strong> International Student Programs (860-512-3205)<br />
Minority Student Programs: The Office of Minority <strong>and</strong> International Student<br />
Programs is responsible for planning, promoting <strong>and</strong> implementing academic,<br />
social <strong>and</strong> cultural programs <strong>and</strong> services to meet the needs of MCC students.<br />
These programs <strong>and</strong> services are designed to address issues of multiculturalism<br />
<strong>and</strong> diversity. The Office provides a supportive environment for students<br />
of color <strong>and</strong> under-representation by assisting them with academic <strong>and</strong> social<br />
support through programs, workshops, referrals <strong>and</strong> direct services. The Office<br />
of Minority <strong>and</strong> International Student Programs exists to provide educational<br />
<strong>and</strong> cultural programs <strong>and</strong> services that will increase the <strong>College</strong>’s effort<br />
toward student access, retention <strong>and</strong> graduation. The Office also provides<br />
faculty <strong>and</strong> staff with information <strong>and</strong> activities related to issues of diversity.<br />
Its mission is to support students to achieve academic excellence <strong>and</strong> to meet<br />
the <strong>College</strong>’s goals <strong>and</strong> objectives of providing a socially <strong>and</strong> culturally diverse<br />
environment. Students are encouraged to participate in program development<br />
<strong>and</strong> implementation, <strong>and</strong> they are highly encouraged to participate in the<br />
variety of activities <strong>and</strong> services that the Office provides in order to produce a<br />
more socially <strong>and</strong> culturally diverse learning environment.<br />
