Program Design<br />

The Social Service associate degree program is designed to prepare students<br />

for diverse employment opportunities <strong>and</strong> to provide a foundation for<br />

further academic pursuit. Additionally, the program includes field placement<br />

opportunities which provide students with “h<strong>and</strong>s-on” exposure to the helping<br />

professions.<br />

Curriculum<br />

Students may enroll in this program full- or part-time. They can begin the<br />

program any semester <strong>and</strong> include field work at off-campus sites as part of<br />

their program.<br />

Learning Outcomes<br />

Upon successful completion of all Social Service degree program requirements,<br />

graduates will<br />

1. Familiarize students with the past, present <strong>and</strong> future of human<br />

services.<br />

2. Prepare students for group facilitation <strong>and</strong> participation, grant proposal<br />

writing, <strong>and</strong> oral <strong>and</strong> written expressions appropriate to human<br />

services.<br />

3. Prepare students in the conducting of interviews <strong>and</strong> assessments,<br />

<strong>and</strong> basic human service research.<br />

4. Prepare students in the areas of service provision to recipient populations<br />

utilizing field placements.<br />

5. Overall familiarization with the human services skills necessary to<br />

interact effectively with individuals, families or groups.<br />

In addition, the graduate will complete the comprehensive learning outcomes<br />

identified with the General Education Component.<br />
