Program Design<br />
The Business Administration Career program prepares graduates for employment<br />
as management trainees <strong>and</strong> for entry level positions in banks, insurance<br />
companies <strong>and</strong> governmental agencies. It is a general business program<br />
requiring students to take courses in accounting, business law, economics,<br />
management <strong>and</strong> corporation finance.<br />
Although many courses in this program may be transferred, it is possible that<br />
they will transfer only as electives. Students planning to earn a bachelor’s<br />
degree should register in the Accounting <strong>and</strong> Business Administration Transfer<br />
Program.<br />
This program is of considerable benefit to employed students looking for professional<br />
development or students who hold degrees in unrelated areas <strong>and</strong><br />
are looking for a career specialty or career change.<br />
Curriculum<br />
Students may attend full- or part-time. Students must achieve at least a C or<br />
better in an accounting course to continue on to the next level. Note: All business<br />
courses numbered 100 or higher require students to be eligible for ENG*<br />
101 except BBG* 234. All accounting courses numbered 100 or higher require<br />
students to be eligible for ENG* 101 <strong>and</strong> MAT* 095 or higher.<br />

Learning Outcomes<br />
Upon successful completion of all Business Administration Career degree<br />
program requirements, graduates will<br />
1. Prepare <strong>and</strong> interpret financial statements <strong>and</strong> use accounting for<br />
managerial decisions.<br />
2. Underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> discuss financial issues dealing with the environment<br />
of managerial finance; including working capital management, shortterm<br />
financing, capital markets, <strong>and</strong> the theory of the value of the firm<br />
(risk, leverage, cost of capital).<br />
3. Generally underst<strong>and</strong> the U.S. legal system <strong>and</strong> be able to apply<br />
principles of contract law, sales law under Article II of the Uniform<br />
Commercial Code, <strong>and</strong> the law of agency to business situations.<br />
4. Discuss partnership <strong>and</strong> corporation law, property, wills <strong>and</strong> estates,<br />
commercial paper, the bank collection process, secured transactions<br />
<strong>and</strong> creditors’ rights, <strong>and</strong> government regulation of business.<br />
5. Analyze principles, techniques, <strong>and</strong> major functions (planning, organizing,<br />
lending <strong>and</strong> controlling) of business enterprise management.<br />
6. Underst<strong>and</strong> marketing methods <strong>and</strong> institutions, including analysis <strong>and</strong><br />
interrelationship of the marketing mix.<br />
7. Demonstrate computer skills appropriate to his/her focus area including<br />
word processing, electronic spreadsheet, database management,<br />
general ledger accounting system, <strong>and</strong> presentation software.<br />
8. Use the Internet for business purposes, including research, marketing,<br />
<strong>and</strong> stock market analysis.<br />
9. Demonstrate an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of how the United States economic<br />
system is organized, how it functions <strong>and</strong> how it impacts the global<br />
economy.<br />
10. Successfully enter the marketplace in the field of business.<br />
11. Demonstrate proficiencies in reading, writing, listening, presentation<br />
<strong>and</strong> analytical skills.<br />
12. Work with others, including culturally <strong>and</strong> intellectually diverse people;<br />
think critically; <strong>and</strong> gain an appreciation for life-long learning.<br />
13. Rationalize <strong>and</strong> present solutions to problems using business knowledge<br />
<strong>and</strong> knowledge from social sciences, arts, literature, mathematics<br />
<strong>and</strong> science.<br />
14. Develop sound ethical, philosophical <strong>and</strong> moral professional<br />
characteristics.<br />
15. Demonstrate a responsible attitude in relationships with employers,<br />
peers <strong>and</strong> toward the working environment.<br />
