About Character Code Conversion in <strong>HP</strong>OM<br />

Converting Managed Node Files with EUC<br />

In a Japanese-language environment, <strong>HP</strong>OM does not per<strong>for</strong>m a runtime<br />

conversion on the management server. <strong>HP</strong>OM per<strong>for</strong>ms a runtime<br />

conversion only <strong>for</strong> managed node configuration files if the <strong>HP</strong>OM agents<br />

on <strong>HP</strong>-UX, Solaris, AIX, or Tru64 <strong>UNIX</strong> are running with the EUC<br />

character set.<br />

Processing Managed Node Files<br />

In a Japanese-language environment, <strong>HP</strong>OM processes managed node<br />

files as follows:<br />

SNMP Events<br />

Interprets incoming SNMP events in ASCII <strong>for</strong>mat.<br />

User Commands<br />

Converts user commands from the external character set to the node<br />

Does not convert input <strong>for</strong> configuration files. <strong>HP</strong>OM always<br />

processes configuration files in the node processing character set.<br />

Local Logfiles<br />

Does not convert output <strong>for</strong> local <strong>HP</strong>OM logfiles. <strong>HP</strong>OM always<br />

processes the contents of logfiles in the node processing character<br />

set.<br />

MIB Processing<br />

Processes MIB files in the <strong>HP</strong>OM node processing character set.<br />

Action Agents<br />

Be<strong>for</strong>e actions are started, action agents receive their input in the<br />

management server character set, and convert it into the node<br />

processing character set.<br />
