In most tissues the diacyl forms of the glycerophospholipids predominate, but<br />

small amounts of ether derivatives are also found. These are the monoacyl monoalk-<br />

1-enyl ether forms of phospholipids. Choline <strong>and</strong> ethanolamine plasmalogens are the<br />

most common forms, although serine plasmalogen has also been found.<br />

The phosphonolipids that contain a covalent bond between the phosphorus<br />

atom <strong>and</strong> the carbon of the nitrogenous base comprise another glycerophospholipid<br />
