MAGUINDANAO The Maguindanao are the largest Muslim ethnic group in
the Philippines. They number approximately 885,000, or about 1.7 percent of
the population. Nearly all live in the province of Cotabato on the large southern
island of Mindanao.
Just north of the Maguindanao are two other major Muslim groups—the Maranao
of the region around Lake Lanao and the Iranon, who live along the coast
