In <strong>the</strong> years immediately follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Mormon pioneers’<br />

arrival, <strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>City</strong>’s prime mid-country location and<br />

abundant resources quickly earned <strong>the</strong> grow<strong>in</strong>g outpost<br />

<strong>the</strong> moniker “Crossroads of <strong>the</strong> West.” Completion of <strong>the</strong><br />

Trans-Cont<strong>in</strong>ental Railroad at Utah’s Promontory Po<strong>in</strong>t <strong>in</strong><br />

Wasatch Mounta<strong>in</strong>s. Nowhere else <strong>in</strong> America is an urban area situated with<strong>in</strong> such immediate proximity to a major mounta<strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>City</strong>’s modern history began on a July afternoon <strong>in</strong> 1847 when Brigham Young and his party of 148 Mormon pioneers<br />
