Utah architect Richard K. A. Klett<strong>in</strong>g won a national design competition issued<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Utah State Legislature <strong>in</strong> 1911 to design <strong>the</strong> Utah State Capitol Build<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Construction of <strong>the</strong> Neoclassical revival, Cor<strong>in</strong>thian style structure began <strong>in</strong><br />

1912 and was completed <strong>in</strong> 1916. The build<strong>in</strong>g was added to <strong>the</strong> National<br />

Register of Historic Places <strong>in</strong> 1978. A major restoration and seismic upgrade<br />

project was completed <strong>in</strong> 2008, allow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g to withstand up to a<br />

7.3 magnitude earthquake. A variety of artifacts and artwork are on display<br />

with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Capitol and throughout its sweep<strong>in</strong>g grounds.<br />
