In recognition of <strong>the</strong> outstand<strong>in</strong>g education offered at<br />

Judge Memorial, graduat<strong>in</strong>g classes rout<strong>in</strong>ely earn between<br />

$10-$16 million <strong>in</strong> scholarships and renewable grants.<br />

Key <strong>in</strong>dividuals <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> school’s early days <strong>in</strong>clude<br />

Monsignor James T. Kenny, a teacher, coach, and adm<strong>in</strong>istrator<br />

who also served <strong>the</strong> diocese as Super<strong>in</strong>tendent of<br />

Catholic Schools; and Monsignor J. Terrence Fitzgerald, a<br />

1954 Judge Memorial alumnus, who as <strong>the</strong> school’s pr<strong>in</strong>cipal<br />

and president <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 1990s, brought it to f<strong>in</strong>ancial solvency<br />

and restored its strong Catholic identity. Sister Louise Marie,<br />

a Holy Cross sister who taught at both St. Mary of <strong>the</strong><br />

Wasatch and Judge Memorial for many years, is a beloved<br />

former faculty member. Marjorie Pierce who, for over twenty<br />

year, taught at both St. Mary’s and Judge, was a champion<br />

for women’s sports long before it was fashionable to be one.<br />

Roy and Teru Okamoto, who, <strong>in</strong> 1945, began work <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

cafeteria and car<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>the</strong> grounds. After Teru’s death <strong>in</strong><br />

1975, Roy cont<strong>in</strong>ued to live and work at Judge until his<br />

retirement <strong>in</strong> 1987.<br />

The school’s tradition of both excellence <strong>in</strong> education<br />

and service to o<strong>the</strong>rs cont<strong>in</strong>ues. Current students volunteer<br />

with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> school, <strong>the</strong> Diocese, across <strong>the</strong> <strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> Valley,<br />

and throughout <strong>the</strong> country and <strong>the</strong> world. The mission of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Christian Service program at Judge Memorial is to engage<br />

students <strong>in</strong> service to o<strong>the</strong>rs. Senior students annually<br />

contribute over 21,000 hours of service, with over forty of<br />

<strong>the</strong>m typically honored with <strong>the</strong> Presidential Service Award<br />

each year for community service.<br />

Judge Memorial is well-known for its commitment to<br />

academic excellence, character build<strong>in</strong>g, sportsmanship, and<br />

for produc<strong>in</strong>g well-rounded graduates who are ready to make<br />

a difference. Students learn <strong>the</strong> value of hard work, generosity<br />

toward o<strong>the</strong>rs, and respect. Judge Memorial is recognized<br />

and respected for challeng<strong>in</strong>g students of all races and<br />

socioeconomic backgrounds to reach <strong>the</strong>ir full potential; to<br />

prepare for <strong>the</strong> rigors of a university education; to participate<br />

<strong>in</strong> community service; and, ultimately, to return a full<br />

measure of value and character to society. Simply put,<br />

Judge Memorial students are prepared for success.<br />
