MONSEN ENGINEERING OF SALT LAKE CITY<br />

company was sold and Roger’s philosophy no longer fit <strong>in</strong>to<br />

<strong>the</strong> new owner’s corporate culture. Roger was determ<strong>in</strong>ed to<br />

rema<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry and established Monsen Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> 1974 with <strong>the</strong> support of his bro<strong>the</strong>r, Kent Monsen.<br />

Roger was jo<strong>in</strong>ed by three of his loyal previous<br />

employees who followed him to Monsen Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

A key orig<strong>in</strong>al employee was his nephew, Paul Monsen who<br />

performed <strong>the</strong> account<strong>in</strong>g and f<strong>in</strong>anc<strong>in</strong>g functions. Paul<br />

went on to become <strong>the</strong> company’s CFO and a partner <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess. Richard Monsen, Roger’s youngest son, assumed a<br />

sales position and eventually became its president.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> 1970s, Monsen Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g sold hand draft<strong>in</strong>g<br />

tools, draft<strong>in</strong>g room furniture and bluepr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>es,<br />

Monsen Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>City</strong> is <strong>the</strong> lead<strong>in</strong>g<br />

supplier of measurement products and solutions to <strong>the</strong><br />

design and build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustries <strong>in</strong> Idaho, Wyom<strong>in</strong>g, Utah<br />

and Nevada. The third generation, family-owned company<br />

is excited to be celebrat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir fortieth year <strong>in</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess. The<br />

moral compass and bus<strong>in</strong>ess policies set by <strong>the</strong> company’s<br />

founder, Roger P. Monsen, Sr., created a strong foundation<br />

for Monsen Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g to grow from.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> age of fifty-seven, Roger found himself out of<br />

work after spend<strong>in</strong>g more than twenty-five years with<br />

<strong>the</strong> Pembroke Company. This 100 year old, family-owned<br />
