In September 2013, Beijer Electronics North America<br />

moved to a much larger facility at 1865 West 2100 South,<br />

<strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>City</strong>, to help accommodate its growth and better<br />

represent its technical competence. With Malmo, Sweden,<br />

as <strong>the</strong> site of its headquarters, Beijer Electronics has sites<br />

<strong>in</strong> twenty-two countries—Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Ch<strong>in</strong>a,<br />

Denmark, Estonia, F<strong>in</strong>land, France, Germany, India, Latvia,<br />

Lithuania, Malaysia, Norway, S<strong>in</strong>gapore, South Korea,<br />

Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United K<strong>in</strong>gdom and<br />

<strong>the</strong> United States.<br />

The company sells products <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g automation software,<br />

operator panels, <strong>in</strong>dustrial/panel PCs and environmentallyrugged<br />

QSI HMIs and TREQ ® mobile data term<strong>in</strong>als. These<br />

panels or touch screens control mach<strong>in</strong>ery and visually<br />

communicate mach<strong>in</strong>e performance. Their “rugged” core<br />

competency is designed to ensure that <strong>the</strong>y can<br />

operate <strong>in</strong> challeng<strong>in</strong>g environmental conditions.<br />

It has allowed Beijer to diversify <strong>in</strong>to products for<br />

use <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> oil and gas, medical, energy, truck<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

transportation, process control, packag<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>dustries, with current annual sales of<br />

approximately $30 million, and over 250,000<br />

term<strong>in</strong>als shipped to over 2,000 customers.<br />

Beijer was among Utah’s fastest-grow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

firms <strong>in</strong> 1995-2000, with a majority of its raw<br />

materials sourced from Utah companies. The company takes<br />

pride <strong>in</strong> its environmental advancement, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a green<br />

team focused on reduc<strong>in</strong>g waste and recycl<strong>in</strong>g. In addition,<br />

<strong>the</strong> company’s new build<strong>in</strong>g is equipped with automatic<br />

lights that will also <strong>in</strong>crease energy conservation.<br />

“We have recently expanded <strong>in</strong>to Brazil,” Jim says. “We<br />

plan to expand <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> medical and m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g markets where<br />

dependable and rugged products are essential. Outlook for <strong>the</strong><br />

future is projected at $100 million <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> next five to six years,<br />

through organic and acquisition growth. O<strong>the</strong>r future plans<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude an <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> market share <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustrial HMI<br />

market, cont<strong>in</strong>ued focus on environmentally rugged build<strong>in</strong>gs,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>troduction of soft PLC <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> Americas.”<br />
