Right: <strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>City</strong> is home to <strong>the</strong> Grammy- and Emmy Award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g, 360-member<br />

Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The choir and 150-member orchestra have performed<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> United States and around <strong>the</strong> world, and can also be heard weekly as part<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Music and <strong>the</strong> Spoken Word broadcast, a thirty-m<strong>in</strong>ute broadcast air<strong>in</strong>g on over<br />

2,000 radio, TV, cable and satellite stations worldwide.<br />

Opposite: Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Christmas season <strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>City</strong>’s Temple Square, headquarters<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Sa<strong>in</strong>ts, is a particularly popular dest<strong>in</strong>ation for<br />

both residents and visitors alike. From November 25 to January 1, <strong>the</strong> Temple’s ten-acre<br />

campus is aglow with hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights and nativity scenes.<br />

The breadth of support for visual arts <strong>in</strong> <strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>City</strong> is matched only by back<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ater, dance and music.<br />

Few o<strong>the</strong>r comparably sized cities <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> U.S. and around <strong>the</strong> world can boast not only a local symphony, but ballet<br />

and opera as well—all three of which are recognized both nationally and <strong>in</strong>ternationally. Abravanel Hall is home to<br />

<strong>the</strong> venerable Utah Symphony, and Ballet West and <strong>the</strong> Utah Opera perform at <strong>the</strong> historic Capitol Theatre—arts<br />

organizations recognized both across <strong>the</strong> country and around <strong>the</strong> world. But <strong>the</strong> options certa<strong>in</strong>ly do not end <strong>the</strong>re.<br />

The cutt<strong>in</strong>g edge alternative Plan-B Theatre Company, two modern dance companies and <strong>the</strong> G<strong>in</strong>a Bauchaur<br />

International Piano Foundation are among <strong>the</strong> perform<strong>in</strong>g arts organizations housed at <strong>the</strong> Rose Wagner Center for<br />

<strong>the</strong> Perform<strong>in</strong>g Arts. Both renowned plays and Saturday’s Voyeur—an annual, good-natured spoof on conservative<br />

Utah culture—are presented at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> Act<strong>in</strong>g Company. And perhaps <strong>Salt</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>City</strong>’s best-known performers,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Mormon Tabernacle Choir, perform regularly <strong>in</strong> both <strong>the</strong> Tabernacle and <strong>the</strong> Conference Center at Temple Square.<br />
