CODE RETRIEVAL PROCEDURES - KOER TEST<br />
8. Perform the following procedures when prompted by the message<br />
on the CanOBD2&1 <strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Tool</strong>'s display.<br />
� Turn the steering wheel 1/2 turn to right, hold for four seconds<br />
and release.<br />
� Press the brake pedal to the floor and then release it.<br />
� Cycle the Overdrive Switch (if equipped).<br />
� Quickly press the accelerator pedal to the floor and then release it.<br />
9. After the above procedures are<br />
performed a "One moment please<br />
KOER test is in progress..." message<br />
shows temporarily on the CanOBD2&1<br />
<strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Tool</strong>'s display, followed by a<br />
"Retrieving codes" message.<br />
10. If the CanOBD2&1 <strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Tool</strong> was able<br />
to link to the vehicle successfully, a<br />
“Code retrieval was successful...” message shows temporarily on<br />
the CanOBD2&1 <strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Tool</strong>’s display, followed by any retrieved<br />
DTCs.<br />
If code 98 or 998 displays, the<br />
vehicle is operating in "Failure<br />
Mode". The computer goes into<br />
failure mode when it detects a<br />
signal from a sensor that indicates<br />
the sensor has failed and is<br />
completely out of specifications.<br />
The computer substitutes a fixed<br />
signal value for the failed sensor<br />
to keep the vehicle running. Failure mode codes 98 or 998 are<br />
usually accompanied by one or more Diagnostic Trouble<br />
Codes that indicate the failed sensor. A vehicle operating in<br />
failure mode is operating at a minimal level, and the faults that<br />
are causing these Diagnostic Trouble Codes to set must be<br />
repaired as soon as possible.<br />
Most Ford EEC-IV vehicle computers up to 1991 use a twodigit<br />
code system. From 1991 to 1995 most use a three-digit<br />
code system.<br />
11. If no problems are found during the<br />
KOER Self-Test, the computer sends a<br />
"PASS code" (code 11 or 111) to the<br />
CanOBD2&1 <strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Tool</strong>. Code 11 or<br />
111 indicates that all the relays and<br />
actuators and their related circuits that<br />
were tested during the KOER Self-Test<br />
are OK, and no faults were found.<br />
12. After the CanOBD2&1 <strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Tool</strong> retrieves all the KOER Self-Test<br />
DTCs, turn the engine off, and disconnect the CanOBD2&1 <strong>Scan</strong><br />
<strong>Tool</strong> from the vehicle's test connectors. The DTCs retrieved are now<br />
stored in the CanOBD2&1 <strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Tool</strong>'s memory.<br />
