wines, are the most
renowned and
sought-after English
wines.
Lyme Bay Bacchus Block
Devon
A full-bodied Bacchus with broad tropical-fruit
notes and herbal undertones. 100% Bacchus,
made with slightly overripe grapes, some with
a touch of Botrytis. This has resulted in a wine
brimming with bold, zesty, intense tropical fruit
notes.
Grape varieties: Bacchus
Wine production in England is a story of perseverance
and determination. Despite the challenging climate and
a history of ups and downs, English winemakers have
not given up on their dream of producing world-class
wines. And it seems that their efforts are finally paying
off.
The 21st century has seen a significant increase in the
number of vineyards and wineries in England, with
more and more wine lovers recognising the quality
and unique character of English wines. The milder
climate due to global warming has helped to extend
the growing season for grapes, making it possible for
wineries to produce high-quality wines.
In 2022, Sussex became
the first PDO (Protected
Designation Origin) in England.
Over 60% of wines are sold to
Scandinavian countries.
More than 14million vines were
planted in England in 2020.
