Romania
Romania has
about 187,000
hectares of vine
plantations
Romania is the fifth largest wine producing country in
Europe, although its wines are still largely unknown
amongst British wine drinkers. With 3000 hectares,
Fetească Neagră, or black maiden, is Romania’s favourite
indigenous red grape and second most-planted darkberried
variety behind Merlot (11,901 hectares). Depending
on climate and vintage, it can produce medium- to fullbodied
wines.
Recaș Wineries (Romanian: Cramele
Recaș) is a winery located in Recaș, Timiș
County, Romania.
Established in 1991, the company was
Romania's leading wine producer by 2018,
with a turnover of €38 million. Additionally,
it was the country's top exporter, sending
half its output abroad.[1]
The winery has an annual production
capacity of 32 million liters. Its grapes grow
on 1150 hectares in Recaș and Miniș. The
grapes are in 25 varieties, producing 45
brands
which creates an oranged-hued finish.
