ITALY
Italy’s wine regions are vast and varied - much like the country’s geography! Each of the country’s 20
administrative regions produce wine, spanning the sun-drenched hills of Abruzzo, the Marche and
Tuscany, to the misty, luscious hills of Veneto and the mountain-cupped Piedmont in the north, then back
down to the high altitude wines found on the slopes of Etna in Sicily.
There are about 350 official Italian wine varieties (although rumour has it over 2,000 different Italian grapes
exist) and each region has its flagship wine styles. Some are famous because they are produced in large
volumes and can be found all over the world, others because of their consistently high quality. Exploring
Italy’s exciting wines is highly recommended.
Pecorino Noi Cento 2021
Abruzzo
A crisp and fresh Pecorino, lemon-green in
colour with blossom and grapefruit aromas. The
palate is dry and crisp with a zesty citrus acidity
and notes of white peach, pear and green
apples. From Abruzzo, on central Italy`s Adriatic
coast where sheep (pecore) have roamed since
time immemorial..
Grape varieties: Pecorino
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOCG Noi
Cento 2021/22
Abruzzo
The rugged coastline of the Abruzzo region is
home to the wonderful juicy, Montepulciano
grape. A vibrant purple coloured wine bursting
with cherry and violet aromas and flavours. This
is really gulpable stuff and one bottle inevitably
leads onto a second.
Grape varieties: Montepulciano
C
Falanghina del Sannio DOP 2021
Campania
This dry white wine has a straw-yellow colour
and a strong fruity bouquet. The fruity nuances
increase as the wine opens up, leading to a wellbalanced,
pleasant and refreshing finish.
Ideal with light appetizers, gnocchi or homemade
pasta with tomato sauce
Grape varieties: Falanghina
Pontemagno Verdicchio Dei Castelli de
Jesis Classico DOC 2021
Marche
This refreshing dry white comes from the hills
behind Ancona on the Adriatic, in the superior
Castelli di Jesi Classico zone. It’s crisp but has
richness and character that lifts it above the
competition. Fine, lasting lightly fruity bouquet
with a dry, fresh and elegant body.
Grape varieties: Verdicchio
Gavi di Gavi DOCG Manfredi 2021/22
Piedmont
Obtained by the gentle pressing of Cortese
grapes, this wine is bottled in the spring
immediately following the harvest. Pale straw
yellow with green hints, it has aromas of fruits.
There’s good acidity and lovely ripeness. Dry
on the palate, it is particularly suited to hors
d’oeuvre and fish dishes.
Grape varieties: Cortese
Barolo DOCG Manfredi 2018
A rich and spicy Barolo. Deep red garnet in
colour, full bodied red made from the Nebbiolo
grape which turns rich red with age. Open and
spicy nose with notes of berry fruits, plum,
wood smoke and leather.
