But of course the convictions of the book are entirely my own and I assume full responsibility for any deficiencies in their formulation and expression. An Envisioned Ministry It is hoped that this work will lend itself to a number of significant ends. As a textbook, it should be useful in several fields: as a companion volume in apologetics or as a basic text; as the basis of a study of theism as over against alternative positions; and even as an introduction to philosophy, since, at some point or other, it deals with the major philosophical problems in epistemology and metaphysics and eve, though to a lesser extent, in ethics. But these considerations, important as I intend them to be, are, after all, secondary. The book is primarily a serious effort to reorient and communicate argumentative theism and rational apologetics to the contemporary mind. Whatever else may be the use for this work, it is my prayer that it might be above all an evangel and a summons to theism as the only adequate explanation of existence and destiny.
