Anywhere In a Word Setting On the Forbidden Word definition is a check box labeled Anywhere in a word. Check this box to forbid an entire word if the forbidden word appears inside that word or is part of another word. For example, if the forbidden word is xyz, then the words xyzing and axyzbc are forbidden. While a useful option, caution should be exercised in the case where the forbidden word can legitimately appear inside a non-objectionable word. Archiving Posted Messages The message board has the capability of archiving older messages. Archiving is useful to move old messages to a location to where they are saved, but no longer visible to users. Archiving is only available under the ASP interface (http://localhost/chat). Setting Archiving To set archiving on, click the Option icon at the top of the interface, then, in the bottom portion of the page, select Server Options. Find the section for Message Board Archiving, and then enter the number of days you wish to set as the archiving threshold. Auditing Server Activity Server activity can be logged to the ChatSpace database file. Using this facility, patterns of usage can be tracked on your server, as well as determine when certain members have signed on, and (in general) what they have done. Note Only certain events are audited. Messages in rooms or between members in person-to-person chat are not recorded. Only transcripts record actual message data. Enabling Auditing To enable or disable auditing: 1. Launch the ChatSpace Configuration Tool. The the Configuration Guide provides details for using the Configuration Tool. 179
2. Click the Security tab. 3. Click the Advanced button. 4. In the Advanced Security dialog, select the Auditing check box. 5. Set the number of Days to Retain Audit Records in the adjacent field. 6. Click OK. Audit records are written to the ChatSpace Database. Viewing Audit Information Audit information can be viewed online from the Security tab of the Configuration Tool or from the Remote Server Administration. Refer to the appendix of this documentation for details regarding interpreting audit record information. Accessing the Audit Log from the Configuration Tool From the Configuration Tool: 1. Launch the ChatSpace Configuration Tool. The the Configuration Guide provides details for using the Configuration Tool. 2. Click the Security tab. 3. Click the Advanced button. 4. Click View Audit Log. 5. When prompted, use your nickname to log into ChatSpace. The Audit Display Settings window is displayed in a browser window. 6. Configure the audit reports: a. Check Show room entry/exits (joins/parts) if you want to view when members entered or exited a room. b. Check Show signons and signoffs if you want to view when members logged in or signed off of the ChatSpace server. c. Set the Start Time and End Time for the report. Note Auditing must have been active during the date range specified. The Audit Log is displayed in a browser window. 180
