Saputiit was represented at the Parnasimautik tour to half
of the Nunavik communities and youth from the schools in
each community were also given the opportunity to voice
their concerns. The lack of youth facilities, access to higher
education within Nunavik, cultural activities, employment, as
well as issues related to young parenting have been major
topics expressed by many youth. The youth are also eager
to learn more about the history of Nunavik, including the
history of the JBNQA.
A great number of Nunavik youth turned out at the
National Inuit Youth Summit that was held in August 2013
in Kuujjuaq. They got to engage with peers from Inuit regions
across Canada and were supported by political leaders
during the week. Youth from each region, including Nunavik
youth, listed their top concerns to be included as priorities
for the national youth body.
We had an increase in the development of youth committees
in 2013 and new members have accepted to become
active within their communities. Most Nunavik communities
now have a youth committee. Saputiit provided quarterly
reports at each KRG regional council meeting to keep
Nunavimmiut informed of the Association’s progress. It is
encouraging to know that Saputiit will resume its activities
with the full support of Makivik.
Kuujjuaq en août 2013. Ils ont ainsi pu échanger avec leurs
pairs et des dirigeants politiques des diverses régions inuites
du Canada. Les jeunes de toutes les régions, incluant le
Nunavik, ont dressé la liste des préoccupations devant être
traitées de manière prioritaire par leur association nationale.
Les comités de jeunes ont connu un regain de vie en
2013, et de nouveaux membres ont pris la relève dans
plusieurs communautés. La plupart des communautés du
Nunavik ont maintenant un comité de jeunes. Saputiit présente
des rapports trimestriels lors de chaque réunion du
des progrès réalisés par l’Association. Il est encourageant
de voir que Saputiit reprendra ses activités avec le soutien
de Makivik.
