Elementary Sanskrit<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

The fundamentals of Sanskrit; exercises in reading. Sanskrit<br />

is the primary language for the Hindu and Buddhist<br />

traditions and the oldest surviving member of the Indo-<br />

European language group. Students learn the Devanagari<br />

script, basic vocabulary, rules for sound combination<br />

(sandhi), and foundational grammar.<br />

Intermediate Sanskrit<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

A continuation of CLCV 201. This course continues the<br />

study of Sanskrit grammar, and reading includes passages<br />

from such texts as the Yoga Sutra, the Bhagavad Gita, and<br />

the Ramayana.<br />
