Work experience in occupational therapy at a private facility<br />

or hospital.<br />

Athletic Training Internship I<br />

4 Semester Hours<br />

Supervised experience in an athletic training environment.<br />

Additional study required with an emphasis on athletic<br />

training techniques and athletic injury management.<br />

Emphasis on sport assignment and the daily working<br />

experience and duties associated with each respective<br />

team. An athletic training environment consists of any of<br />

the following sites: LMU athletic training room; local high<br />

school, college or university athletic training room; physical<br />

therapy clinic; or related health care facility.<br />

protein, lipid, vitamin, and mineral metabolism. Application<br />

to the normal nutrition of human beings with special<br />

focus on optimal health and performance. Evaluation and<br />

interpretation of nutritional research methodology and<br />

findings.<br />

Advanced Nutrition Laboratory<br />

1 Semester Hour<br />

Application and evaluation of techniques used to assess<br />

nutritional status. Chemical and biochemical analysis of<br />

nutrients and metabolites in body fluids.<br />

Psychobiology Research<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

NATURAL SCIENCE / 429<br />

Students participate in on-going laboratory research on<br />

the psychobiology of learning and memory. Emphasis is<br />

on theoretical and methodological issues, research design,<br />

data collection, analysis, and interpretation.<br />

Prerequisites: Grade of B (3.0) or higher in each: PSYC<br />

241, 243, 261, 265. Grade of C (2.0) or higher in each:<br />

PSYC 401, 410, 415. Consent of instructor.<br />

Therapeutic Modalities in Sports Medicine<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

Provides information regarding the physics and physiological<br />

effects of athletic training modalities. Gain understanding of<br />

the inflammatory process and pain management in relation<br />

to athletic injuries. Includes the physiological reactions,<br />

contraindications, and indications to such modalities as<br />

heat, cold, electricity, ultrasound, water, and massage.<br />

Instruction on proper use and application of specific<br />

modalities.<br />

NTLS 462<br />

Therapeutic Rehabilitation in Sports Medicine<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

Instruction on how to design, implement, and supervise<br />

rehabilitation programs for sports-related injuries and<br />

conditions. Theoretical and clinical bases for the use of<br />

therapeutic exercises, basic biomechanics, indications,<br />

contraindications, and proper application of exercises in<br />

therapeutic rehabilitation.<br />

Prerequisites: NTLS 153 and 154.<br />

NTLS 464<br />

Administration in Sports Medicine<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

Addresses organization and administration of athletic<br />

training programs both in athletic training rooms and<br />

clinical sites. Areas such as building a facility, legal issues,<br />

staffing, budgeting, insurance, computer use, record<br />

keeping, emergency care planning, and public relations will<br />

be discussed. Pharmacological issues as they pertain to<br />

athletic performance will be addressed.<br />
