College Writing<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

Course Selection<br />

ENGL 110 will fulfill the college writing requirement. ENGL<br />

100 will not fulfill the college writing requirement but is<br />

required of certain students based on their performance in<br />

the essay written in all ENGL 110 sections during the first<br />

week of classes. A minimum grade of C (2.0) is required in<br />

ENGL 110. All students who receive a grade of C- or lower<br />

must retake ENGL 110 as soon as possible.<br />

Communication: Choose from CMST 100, 110, 130, or<br />

140.<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of college writing<br />

requirement.<br />

Mathematics, Science and Technology<br />

Course Selection<br />

All students take MATH 102 and 103 and one other course<br />

in Science and Engineering. The MATH 102 course is<br />

designed to allow students to attain a level of mathematical<br />

literacy which will enable them to deal with the types<br />

of mathematical questions that they will encounter on a<br />

regular basis after they graduate.<br />

Prerequisite: Demonstration of proficiency in mathematics<br />

by success in MATH 102 or a grade of C or better in MATH<br />

111, 112, 120, 122, 131, or 306. The Mathematics<br />

Placement Examination is required before taking any of<br />

these courses.<br />

The course in science and engineering introduces the<br />

student to the methodology used in that field of science<br />

or engineering. These courses include laboratories and/<br />

or demonstrations providing the student with hands-on<br />

experience.<br />

Courses ordinarily recommended to students majoring<br />

outside the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and<br />

Engineering are those numbered 260-279 in each<br />

department within the College. Courses in this series are<br />

specifically designed for the non-major.<br />

Choose from BIOL 260, 261, 262, 263, 264, 265, 271,<br />

272, 275, 276; CHEM 260, 261, 262, 263, 264; CMSI<br />

261; ELEC 260, 265; MECH 260, 270, 275; NTLS 260,<br />

270; PHYS 271, 272. All other lower division courses (at<br />

least 3 semester hours) in the Frank R. Seaver College of<br />

Science and Engineering also satisfy this requirement.<br />

Only one mathematics course will be credited toward the<br />

Mathematics, Science and Technology component of the<br />

Core.
