FREN 101<br />

Elementary French I<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

A course intended for students who have not taken French<br />

before. Based on a communicative approach, the course<br />

emphasizes reading, writing, and oral proficiency in basic<br />

French. Materials covered include an introduction to all<br />

articles, pronouns, regular and irregular verbs in past and<br />

present tenses and in indicative and imperative modes,<br />

adjectives, prepositions, and basic vocabulary.<br />

Elementary French II<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

A continuation of FREN 101. New materials covered<br />

include an introduction to pronominal verbs, verbs in<br />

the future tense and in the subjunctive and conditional<br />

modes, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs, and many idiomatic<br />

vocabulary and verbal expressions.<br />

Prerequisite: FREN 101 or by LMU Placement Exam.<br />

FREN 203<br />

Intermediate French I<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

After reviewing FREN 101 and 102, an introduction to<br />

more complex linguistic patterns presented in a French/<br />

Francophone cultural and comparative context. Includes<br />

practice in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through<br />

discussion of short texts, written exercises and short<br />

compositions, and work with multimedia resources.<br />

Prerequisite: FREN 102 or LMU Placement Exam.<br />
