American Cultures<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

Course Selection<br />

First- and second-year students choose from any lower<br />

division course (100s or 200s) listed. Third- and fourthyear<br />

students choose from any upper division course (300s<br />

or 400s) listed. A single course will generally not fulfill<br />

two core requirements. The only exception is a course that<br />

satisfies another core requirement, which is also crosslisted<br />

as AMCS (please see the Associate Dean’s Office for<br />

details).<br />

College Writing<br />

Course Selection<br />

ENGL 110 will fulfill the college writing requirement. ENGL<br />

100 will not fulfill the college writing requirement but is<br />

required of certain students based on their performance in<br />

the essay written in all ENGL 110 sections during the first<br />

week of classes. A minimum grade of C (2.0) is required in<br />

ENGL 110. All students who receive a grade of C- or lower<br />

must retake ENGL 110 as soon as possible.<br />

Mathematics, Science and Technology<br />

Course Selection<br />

Prerequisite: Success on the Mathematics Placement<br />

Examination or successful completion of MATH 101.<br />

Students must complete MATH 112. MATH 101 and 111<br />

are normally required as prerequisites but may be waived<br />

if the student has a high enough score on the Mathematics<br />

Placement Examination. All incoming College of Business<br />

Administration students must take the Mathematics<br />

Placement Examination unless they have already completed<br />

MATH 112 or its equivalent. If MATH 111 is waived, the<br />

student must complete a 3 semester hour non-business<br />

course for MATH 111.<br />

Students must complete one 3 semester hour science and<br />

technology course. Courses ordinarily recommended to<br />

students majoring outside the Frank R. Seaver College of<br />

Science and Engineering are those numbered 260-279 in<br />

each department within the College (with the exception<br />

of computer [CMSI] and Mathematics [MATH] courses).<br />

Courses in this series are specifically designed for the nonmajor.<br />

Choose from BIOL 260, 261, 262, 263, 264, 265, 271,<br />

272, 275, 276; CHEM 260, 261, 262, 263, 264; ELEC<br />

260, 265; MECH 260, 270, 275; NTLS 260, 270; PHYS<br />

271, 272. Other Physical Science courses from the Frank<br />

R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering may be used<br />

to satisfy this requirement with the approval of the Associate<br />

Dean’s office of the College of Business Administration.
