Upper division courses are open to juniors and seniors only.<br />

With the permission of the Chairperson, ENGL 321, 322,<br />

371, and 372 may be open to sophomores who have taken<br />

or are concurrently enrolled in the required lower division,<br />

pre-major English courses.<br />

ENGL 100<br />

English as a Second Language<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

ENGLISH / 137<br />

Students enroll in ENGL 100 based on their performance<br />

in the essay administered in all ENGL 110 sections during<br />

the first week of classes. A course designed to give students<br />

essential skills in writing and reading English. Students<br />

must earn a grade of C (2.0) or better in order to pass this<br />

course. Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 101 required.<br />

ENGL 101<br />

Required Writing Lab—ESL<br />

1 Semester Hour<br />

The required lab component of English 100. Taken<br />

concurrently with English 100.<br />

Credit/No Credit grading.<br />

Students must earn a grade of Credit in this lab course in<br />

order to pass ENGL 100.<br />

ENGL 110<br />

College Writing<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

The art of clear and effective college writing. This course<br />

will teach students how to generate clear and persuasive<br />

expository prose suitable to a variety of academic<br />

disciplines.<br />

A grade of C (2.0) or better is required.<br />

ENGL 111<br />

Elective Writing Lab<br />

1 Semester Hour<br />

A program of individualized tutorial instruction designed<br />

specifically to reinforce and develop those skills important<br />

to improving college-level prose.<br />

Credit/No Credit grading.<br />

ENGL 115<br />

<strong>University</strong> Writing Lab<br />

1 Semester Hour<br />

Intensive work on individual writing issues encountered in<br />

course work across the curriculum. Emphasis is placed on<br />

clarity and style.<br />

Credit/F grading. This course may be repeated twice for<br />

degree credit.<br />

Practicum in Tutoring Writing and Liberal Arts<br />
