Applied Music<br />

Individual Instructions<br />

Music Major/Minor<br />

Music majors are required to complete a minimum of four<br />

semesters, and Music minors two semesters, of individual<br />

instruction in the following emphasis areas:<br />

Piano, Guitar, Percussion, Strings, or Voice:<br />

MUSC 180, 181, 280, 281 (Major/4 semester<br />

hours)<br />

MUSC 180, 181 (Minor/2 semester hours)<br />

Each semester hour of earned credit in private applied<br />

lessons requires the following:<br />

A. One 50-minute private lesson weekly (total 14)<br />

B. Enrollment in MUSC 101, Studio Class<br />

C. Minimum of one (1) Studio Class performance<br />

per semester<br />

Only students who have been officially accepted through<br />

audition and declared music majors or minors by the<br />

Department of Music may enroll in private applied lessons<br />

(180, 181, 280, 281, 380, 381, 480, 481). No applied<br />

music fee is required.<br />

Practice room facilities (free of charge) are available to all<br />

applied music students enrolled for credit.<br />

Applied music courses are repeatable for credit. Majors<br />

who wish to continue credit enrollment beyond minimum<br />

requirements may enroll in the subsequent MUSC 380,<br />

381, 480, and 481 offerings.<br />

Music Non-Major/Non-Minor<br />

Individual instruction is available in Piano, Guitar, Drum<br />

Set, Strings, and Voice:<br />

Permission of professor required.<br />

MUSC 182, 282, 382, 482 . . . . .1 S.H. each<br />

There is an applied music fee of $420.00 per semester for<br />

fourteen 30-minute weekly lessons. Applied music courses<br />

are repeatable for credit.<br />

Class instruction is available in Piano, Guitar, and Voice for<br />

students at the beginning level:<br />

MUSC 175, 176, 177 Piano Class . .1 S.H. each<br />

MUSC 178 Voice Class . . . . . . . . .1 S.H.<br />

MUSC 179 Guitar Class . . . . . . . .1 S.H.<br />

These classes meet once weekly, have a limited enrollment,<br />

and may only be repeated once for credit. There is a $20<br />

lab fee for the piano classes.<br />

Ensembles<br />

Music Major/Minor<br />

Music majors are required to complete four semesters, and<br />

Music minors two semesters, of active participation in an<br />

ensemble appropriate to the area of individual instruction<br />

emphasis.
