Objectives<br />

Marketing focuses on activities that facilitate exchange<br />

between individuals and organizations. It prepares<br />

students for careers in marketing research, sales and<br />

sales management, marketing management, retailing, and<br />

advertising—all of which can serve as good career paths<br />

leading to top-level positions in general management in all<br />

types of organizations and industries.<br />

Business Law courses introduce students to the legal<br />

environment of business. A focus in Business Law will<br />

prepare students for the fundamental legal challenges<br />

that affect all aspects of business including: Marketing,<br />

Management, Human Resources Management, Accounting,<br />

International Business, and Entrepreneurship and will<br />

prepare them for careers in highly-regulated industries,<br />

contract-based positions (e.g., insurance), or those in<br />

which intellectual property considerations play a strong role<br />

(e.g., entertainment).<br />

Legal Environment of Business<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

The nature, formation, and application of the law; law<br />

and the business environment; law and society; the social<br />

significance of law; the judicial system. This core requirement<br />

of Business Administration majors will give students a solid<br />

introduction to the legal aspects of a business relationship.<br />

BLAW 301<br />

Business Law Applications and Cases<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

The course offers a detailed study of the nature of contracts<br />

and their applications in business organizations, personal<br />

property, real property, and commercial transactions. A<br />

focus will be placed on interpreting the law through existing<br />

case studies.<br />

Prerequisite: BLAW 205.<br />

BLAW 381<br />

Internship<br />

1 Semester Hour<br />

The objective of this one-semester-hour course is to help<br />

the student achieve a worthwhile learning experience that<br />

is relevant to the program of study in the student’s major<br />

or area of emphasis. The internship, conducted with an<br />

off-campus organization, will help the student gain insights<br />

relative to his/her strengths and weaknesses in the job<br />

environment.<br />

Employment Law<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

A survey course on general employment law concepts, this<br />

study will take a management perspective in understanding<br />

the legal interaction of the employer and the employee<br />

in the work environment. A focus will be placed on the<br />

evolution of employment law and current interpretations by<br />

related employment protection agencies.<br />

Prerequisite: BLAW 205.
