7 | A final word Back in the good old days the whole of science was called natural philosophy. That was a time when educated people curious about nature and in what might exist outside our world, talked together with little restraint to exchange their ideas. Theirs was a world of investigation, collaboration and discovery that must have been a wonderful experience to be part of. I choose to believe those natural philosophers considered their contributions to be elements of what they were naturally meant to do in life. From this I further take the view that fair-minded folks today might think that professional involvement in any aspect of science should be seen by its participants as a vocation that has a moral code to be followed together with a duty of responsibility to unhindered human advancement. In a perfect world, science would be beyond reproach. Because things are not like this today, how can we still make some difference for the better? I could not reasonably expect to hand this book to just anyone on the street and expect them to understand its content, its reason for being, or even to have a hint of interest in the subjects involved. Instead, it would be best received by those members of the public who are already actively or potentially curious about science and who feel that for self advancement they must add to their knowledge and connection with our natural world. However, many important things are happening today that affect us as individuals and it takes a stretch of cold reality to consider that the story of our universe should be more important than finding or keeping a job, paying the mortgage or feeding the family. I think, therefore, that since the question of how our universe works remains an academic one, in that it does not affect our everyday lives in obvious ways, it will understandably remain secondary to the things that are currently more fundamental to our needs and responsibilities. Nevertheless, we humans need to maintain some level of mental stimulation if we are to remain balanced and on-track to develop properly, so perhaps this aspect alone is a good enough reason to pay attention to this broad subject. If enough people in the public arena are seen to understand the nature of the questions that astro-science has for so long been able to fudge answers to and fob off because there has been no penalty for doing so, then perhaps mainstream scientists will begin to realise that public opinion is important and that in terms of where science is headed, keeping that audience properly updated with good information is the right thing to do. This has been an introduction aimed at the interested non-professional who may or may not have already heard about the Electric Universe model and its theories. It has hopefully been a joined-up summary of the basic ideas behind those theories and an attempt at highlighting the inferior nature of the gravity-related explanations we have already been given for the formation and operation of everything in our universe. What is being suggested as the alternative science that applies throughout the universe is significant and important for us all, and my hope is that the reader has been able to see for themselves some justification for the case that has been made. 166 | A final word
