<strong>Program</strong> <strong>Description</strong>: The Civil Engineering Technology program offers a<br />
core curriculum that provides an academic/technical foundation to train technicians<br />
to function effectively as assistants to civil engineers, environmental<br />
engineers, architects, developers or construction managers.<br />
Degree: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.)<br />
Typical Job Opport u n i t i e s :Civil engineering technicians translate the engineer’s<br />
designs into plans, specifications, bids or site layouts, depending on the area of specialization.<br />
Civil engineering technicians work as part of project teams composed of engineers,<br />
chemists, environmentalists, geologists and crafts specialists involved in the collection<br />
of test samples; testing of soil, concrete or other construction site or environmental<br />
materials; and the preparation of reports. They may also be involved in code<br />
enforcement, construction site inspections or hazardous waste containment/remediation.<br />
Plan Reviewer o r Building Inspector. Reviews compliance with prevailing construction<br />
codes and guidelines.<br />
J u n i o rE s t i m a t o r. Assists estimator in preparing quantity and pricing surveys.<br />
Materials Lab Te c h n i c i a n .Assists engineers in testing soils, concrete and various<br />
construction materials.<br />
Engineering Field Repre s e n t a t i v e .Visits construction projects and reports on job<br />
progress and compliance with construction documents.<br />
J u n i o rBridge Inspectorand Field Layout Person. Assists party chief in inspection<br />
of existing bridge work and performs field drafting.<br />
Survey Party Member. Assists the party chief in the collection of survey data.<br />
After successfully completing the Civil Engineering Technology program, the graduate<br />
will be able to:<br />
