D S P courses are available in many formats. Accelerated formats (e.g.,<br />

DSPW0700 Basic Writing and DSPW0800 Developmental Writing taught in one<br />

semester) are available for most DSP courses. Other alternative DSP options and<br />

DSP and college-level course combinations are also offered. These accelerated<br />

and combined courses have been developed to enable students to complete their<br />

developmental studies requirements in less time.<br />

English as a Second Language. If their assessment results indicate the need,<br />

students whose first language is not English enroll in the same DSP math courses<br />

as do native speakers. However, to help those students with particular skills in<br />

learning to write English effectively, the <strong>College</strong> offers special courses in reading<br />

and writing at the basic and developmental levels. To enroll in these courses<br />

students must submit minimum TOEFL scores of 450 on the paper-based examination<br />

or 133 on the computer based examination.<br />

DEVELOPMENTAL STUDIES PLACEMENT<br />

1. Students placing into any combination of two or more subject areas must<br />

take the developmental studies skills course DSPS 0800. Any student<br />

enrolled in at least one DSP course may elect to take DSPS 0800.<br />

2. Students may take courses listed only for their lowest level of placement.<br />

3. Required developmental studies (DSP) courses are a priority over other<br />

courses listed in the following chart:<br />
