3. The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information<br />

contained in the student’s education records, except to the extent that<br />

FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.<br />

4. The right to file a complaint with the dean of Student Affairs and, beyond<br />

that, with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by<br />

<strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> to comply with the requirements of FERPA.<br />

5. The right to obtain a copy of <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong>’s student records policy.<br />

Students can obtain a copy of the <strong>College</strong>’s policy (Policy 04:03:00,<br />

Policies and Procedures Manual) from Admissions and Records at no<br />

charge for a single copy.<br />

MINORS ON CAMPUS<br />

Students, faculty and staff may not bring minors to campus, except for acceptable<br />

visitation purposes. Minors may not be cared for on the campus while their<br />

parent(s) or guardian(s) is in class or engaged in other college business. Neither<br />

may a minor be left unsupervised.<br />

SMOKING AND TOBACCO USE POLICY<br />

<strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> Technical <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> recognizes the increasing<br />

weight of scientific evidence that smoking is harmful not only to the active<br />

smoker but also to the “passive” smoker who is exposed to others’ smoke.<br />

Furthermore, the Centers for Disease Control has reported that passive tobacco<br />

smoke cannot be effectively removed from the workplace by ventilation or by air<br />

filtration. Smoking is defined as “the lighting or carrying of a lighted cigarette,<br />

pipe, or similar device.”<br />

Smoking is prohibited in all <strong>College</strong> buildings and indoor facilities.<br />

A d d i t i o n a l l y, smoking is prohibited in any campus vehicle. All building entrances<br />

are posted as nonsmoking areas. Signs stating “No smoking beyond this point” are<br />

posted at all entrances. Signs are posted at all exits stating “Smoking prohibited<br />

at building entrances.”<br />

The use of mouth tobacco (to include dipping, chewing, etc.) is prohibited in<br />

all <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> buildings, facilities, and vehicles.<br />

The policy applies to the entire <strong>College</strong> community, including employees, students<br />

and visitors. It is the responsibility of all faculty, staff, and students to<br />

adhere to, to enforce, and to inform visitors of the <strong>College</strong>’s smoking policy. If a<br />

student continues to disregard the posting, he/she will be reported to the dean of<br />

Students Affairs. If an employee continues to disregard the posting, he/she will<br />

be reported to the director of Human Resources.<br />

TRAFFIC AND PARKING REGULATIONS<br />

Tr a ffic and parking regulations are established and enforced to assure the rights<br />

and privileges of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and others who operate motor<br />

vehicles at <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong>. <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> believes that operating and parking a<br />

vehicle on campus are privileges. Vehicles operated on all property owned or controlled<br />

by <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> will comply with all traffic and parking signs and with<br />

the laws of the state of Tennessee, in accordance with Tennessee Code A n n o t a t e d<br />

Title 55, Motor and Other Vehicles. Citations will be issued by the Safety and<br />
