OFFICE SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY
Program Description: The Associate of Applied Science degree in Office
Systems Technology offers a core curriculum that provides an academic/technical
foundation for individuals who wish to prepare for positions in business
and industry using personal computer applications and office skills. During the last
semester of the two-year curriculum, office skills will be assessed using an exam, the
O ffice Proficiency Assessment and Certification (OPAC), developed by the
International Association of Administrative Professionals. The OPAC exam is nationally
normed and validated and measures proficiency in keyboarding, word processing,
language arts, records management, and financial applications. Students may choose
to certify based on the results of the exam.
Holders of the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) certification may receive credit
for 16 semester hours at Pellissippi State by presenting proof that they have passed all
parts of the exam and have successfully completed 12 semester hours at Pellissippi State.
Part or all of these credits count toward a degree at Pellissippi State (depending on the
program chosen). See the Admissions and Registration Information section for additional
information on CPS credits.
